Job Title: Surgical Coordinator/Scheduler

Location & commitments
FT/PT/Temp/PRN role based at our Greenville (other) location, Monday-Friday, 7:30a.m. – 6 p.m.
Overtime may be required to ensure patients are taken care, tasks are completed, and calls are returned in a timely manner. Weekend work is rare but can occasionally be necessary.
Supervision Received: Reports to the Department Coordinator, Operations Supervisor and Operations Manager.
Supervision Exercised: None.
Typical Physical Demands: Work requires sitting for long periods of time, some stooping, bending, and stretching may be required. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, type 40-wpm, telephone, fax machine and any other office equipment as necessary. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be within the normal range for telephone contacts.
Typical Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a high-volume office environment, which can be stressful at times. Involves frequent communication with patients, staff members and other medical facilities.
About the role:
The surgical coordinator will serve as a counselor/educator for the patients scheduling surgery and additional physician appointments responsibilities to Physicians East, P. A. and within the framework of the office and corporate policies and procedures of the department
COMPUTER SOFTWARE UTILIZED: Nextgen, Centricity and Healthspan.
Responsibilities
- Acts as liaison between physicians, patient, hospital, SurgiCenter, Eastern Radiology, any other entity where surgery is performed.
- Schedule/coordinate referrals to offices both inside and outside of Physicians East.
- Schedules all surgeries, referral appointments and post-op appointments.
- Answers calls for the department and schedules appointments.
- Always be extremely courteous and helpful and utilizes telephone in a courteous manner.
- Educates patients regarding pre-operative instructions and consents.
- Informs the surgery facility of any special needs of the patient.
- Prepares pre-op papers for patient to take to facility at pre-op visit prior to surgery.
- Sends surgery patient to the appropriate facility for chest x-ray, EKG, and blood work.
- Cancels and reschedules surgery as needed.
- Posts surgical cases with the hospital and surgical center using Healthspan.
- Coordinates and notifies physicians of surgery schedule.
- Participate in in-service education, staff meetings, and other continuing education programs to maintain optimal technical knowledge.
- Attend safety classes & compliance training as offered by Physicians East, PA.
- Work as a contributing member of a team to keep departments running smoothly.
- Performs other tasks as needed or required.
- Must maintain confidentiality.
Candidate requirements
High School Diploma required; Associates Degree preferred. Experience in a medical office environment is required.
- Must have strong computer experience.
- Must have a strong sense of team commitment, which includes meeting deadlines, punctuality and excellent follow-through and feedback.
- Must display a high level of confidentiality, integrity, and initiative.
- Ability to form positive and collaborative relationships with peers and physicians at all levels within the company.
