Position Status: This position is contingent upon contract award and successful contract transition. Employment is also contingent upon the candidate's ability to satisfy all customer, contract, and security clearance requirements.

If awarded, this position is expected to be covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Compensation, benefits, and working conditions for covered positions will be administered in accordance with the applicable agreement and contract requirements.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

The Building Automation Lead is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of Building Automation Systems (BAS) supporting a complex federal facility. This position serves as the technical subject matter expert for BAS operations and is responsible for ensuring facility systems operate efficiently, reliably, and in accordance with contract requirements. The Building Automation Lead monitors system performance, analyzes operational data, supports energy management initiatives, and works closely with operations, engineering, and maintenance personnel to maintain safe and effective facility operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Monitor and manage HVAC, energy management, utility, lighting, and other integrated building control systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve BAS software, hardware, communication, and control system issues.
  • Perform system testing, calibration, commissioning, and verification activities.
  • Analyze system trends, alarms, and performance data to identify operational issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and implement BAS programming modifications, scheduling changes, and control sequence adjustments as required.
  • Ensure BAS systems operate in accordance with contract requirements, manufacturer recommendations, and industry best practices.
  • Coordinate with maintenance, engineering, and operations personnel to support equipment performance and reliability.
  • Support energy conservation initiatives and building performance optimization efforts.
  • Maintain system documentation, training records, programming backups, and technical records.
  • Assist with facility upgrades, renovations, system integrations, and commissioning activities.
  • Support emergency response activities, troubleshooting efforts, and system restoration following outages or failures.
Requirements:

JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Building Automation, Controls Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Facilities Management, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience supporting Building Automation Systems, Energy Management Systems, Industrial Controls, or related building control technologies.
  • Manufacturer training on the Building Automation System(s) utilized within the facility.
  • Current training certificates documenting BAS manufacturer training and technical proficiency.
  • Demonstrated experience installing, programming, troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing Building Automation Systems.
  • Experience supporting HVAC control systems, energy management systems, and facility automation technologies.
  • Ability to interpret control drawings, system schematics, sequences of operation, technical manuals, and specifications.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening.

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting federal government facilities contracts.
  • Experience supporting large campus-style, industrial, mission-critical, or training environments.
  • Experience with Siemens, Johnson Controls, Tridium Niagara, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, or similar BAS platforms.
  • Experience supporting central utility plants, chilled water systems, boiler systems, or energy management programs.
  • Experience with network communications, BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, or similar BAS protocols.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, retro-commissioning, and system integration projects.
  • Experience utilizing computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Supervisory, lead technician, or project leadership experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is performed in a combination of office, mechanical, utility, industrial, and outdoor environments and requires regular interaction with building automation systems, control panels, mechanical equipment, and facility infrastructure. The incumbent must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb stairs and ladders, and access mechanical rooms, utility spaces, rooftops, and other equipment locations throughout the facility. The position may require occasional lifting and carrying of tools, equipment, or materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Work may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, electrical equipment, moving mechanical systems, and other operational environments. The incumbent must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) when entering designated work areas. Occasional evening, weekend, on-call, or extended work hours may be necessary to support operational requirements, system outages, troubleshooting activities, emergency response efforts, or contract needs.

The compensation range provided for this position is intended as a general guideline. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, certifications, geographic location, market conditions, and business needs, consistent with applicable laws and contract requirements.

Positions covered by the Service Contract Act (SCA), Davis-Bacon Act (DBA), Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), or other applicable contract requirements will be administered in accordance with those requirements. Compensation, benefits, and work rules for positions covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement will be governed by the applicable agreement.
