This role offers the opportunity to build advanced software solutions that help secure critical infrastructure and connected environments worldwide.
The Senior Device Engineer will design and develop automation capabilities for identifying, analyzing, and interacting with network-connected devices across IoT, embedded, and industrial systems.
Working within a mission-driven cybersecurity environment, this position combines software engineering, reverse engineering, and network protocol analysis to solve complex technical challenges.
The role focuses on transforming device communication insights into reliable product capabilities that improve visibility and protection.
You will collaborate with security researchers, product teams, and engineers to deliver scalable solutions that address real-world cyber threats.
This is a remote-first opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys innovation, technical exploration, and meaningful security impact.

Accountabilities:

The Senior Device Engineer will be responsible for building and maintaining production-grade software that enables device discovery, fingerprinting, automation, and secure interactions across diverse network-connected systems. The role requires strong technical ownership, problem-solving abilities, and collaboration across engineering and cybersecurity teams.

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy software solutions for identifying, fingerprinting, and interacting with embedded, IoT, and OT/ICS devices.
  • Build and enhance shared frameworks, services, interfaces, and tooling that support device automation capabilities.
  • Analyze device communication methods using network captures, documentation, hands-on testing, and reverse engineering techniques.
  • Translate undocumented protocols and device behaviors into reliable, automated product features.
  • Contribute to system migrations, architectural improvements, and modernization initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues involving protocols, integrations, and difficult-to-reproduce device behaviors.
  • Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks to ensure reliability and broad device coverage.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools effectively for research, coding, debugging, documentation, and productivity improvements.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and engineering design decisions.
  • Mentor other engineers and share technical expertise across the team.
  • Partner with product, threat research, security research, and customer-facing teams to translate requirements into impactful engineering solutions.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer with a strong cybersecurity mindset and the ability to work on complex systems involving network communication, automation, and connected devices. The role requires technical depth, curiosity, and strong collaboration skills in a fast-moving remote environment.

  • 5+ years of experience as a software engineer delivering production-level software systems.
  • Professional experience in cybersecurity, secure software development, or related security domains.
  • Strong proficiency in Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript development.
  • Experience with Go programming is highly valued.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols, including TCP/IP, TLS, HTTP, authentication methods, and embedded or industrial communication protocols.
  • Ability to analyze network traffic captures, understand device behavior, and develop fingerprints or automation patterns.
  • Experience working with relational databases and data-driven applications.
  • Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux environments, including debugging and performance analysis.
  • Experience with Docker and containerized development and deployment workflows.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices, vulnerability awareness, and secure coding principles.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants and the ability to evaluate their output critically.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Experience with industrial control systems, OT environments, embedded systems, or xIoT security is a plus.
  • Ability to adapt, learn quickly, and operate successfully in an evolving technology environment.
Benefits:
  • Competitive annual salary of approximately $165,000, based on experience and qualifications.
  • Competitive equity package.
  • Comprehensive benefits plan.
  • Remote-first work environment with flexibility to work from home.
  • Opportunity to contribute to cybersecurity solutions protecting critical infrastructure worldwide.
  • Collaborative culture built around transparency, trust, innovation, and mission-driven work.
  • Opportunities for technical growth, mentorship, and professional development.
