Interventional Radiologist (MD/DO)

Brooklyn VA Medical Center — VA New York Harbor Health Care System Location: 800 Poly Place, Brooklyn, NY 11209 (onsite) Position Type: Full-Time (1.0 FTE) and On-Call opportunities available | W2 or 1099 contract options Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, plus rotating on-call coverage

About the Opportunity

Akicita Federal, a tribally-owned federal healthcare staffing firm, is seeking Board Certified or Board Eligible Interventional Radiologists to provide onsite and on-call physician services at the Brooklyn VA Medical Center, part of the VA New York Harbor Health Care System. This is a rewarding opportunity to serve our nation's Veterans in a state-of-the-art clinical environment while working alongside a dedicated multidisciplinary team.

Position Summary

The Interventional Radiologist will deliver the full range of IR services consistent with American College of Radiology (ACR) practice parameters and nationally recognized standards of care. Approximately 95% of time is dedicated to direct patient care, with the remainder supporting quality improvement, peer review, and staff meetings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a broad scope of interventional radiology procedures, including but not limited to:
    • Angiography, balloon angioplasty, and stent placement
    • Embolization and chemoembolization
    • Thrombolysis and IVC filter placement
    • Image-guided biopsy, radiofrequency ablation, and cryoablation
    • Central line insertion and dialysis access interventions
    • Drain insertions, cholecystostomy, and nephrostomy placement
    • Vertebroplasty, TIPS placement, and biliary interventions
    • Radiologically inserted gastrostomy (RIG)
    • Endovenous laser ablation of varicose veins
  • Provide consultation to referring physicians on appropriate indications for IR procedures and determine the most clinically appropriate course of treatment
  • Review consults, orders, and next-day patient cases (minimum two hours daily)
  • Provide post-procedure evaluation, follow-up, and clinical consultation regarding complications
  • Ensure timely communication of test results in accordance with VHA Directive 1088
  • Document all care in the VA electronic health record (CPRS/VistA) per VHA standards
  • Participate in peer review (~1 hour/week), quality improvement activities, and monthly staff meetings
  • Comply with all patient safety, infection control, and privacy (HIPAA) requirements
On-Call Coverage
  • On-call coverage during WHEN hours (Weekends, Holidays, Evenings, Nights): weekdays 4:30 PM – 8:00 AM and full weekend coverage from Friday 4:30 PM through Monday 8:00 AM
  • On-call physicians must be reachable by phone within 15 minutes and able to be onsite within 60 minutes
  • Call-back compensated at a separate hourly rate upon arrival at the facility
Required Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Interventional Radiology (American Board of Radiology); board certification must be maintained current
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
    • Note: Candidates who have ever had a license restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action, or denied upon application cannot be considered
  • Current DEA registration
  • Active NPI number
  • Current ACLS and BLS certification
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Ability to successfully complete VA credentialing and privileging (VetPro) and a federal background investigation (NACI)
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S.; not listed on the HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/Entities
  • Proof of required immunizations and TB screening per CDC guidance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior VA or federal healthcare experience (familiarity with CPRS/VistA, VA workflows, and the Veteran population)
  • Experience in a high-acuity academic or tertiary care setting

$440 - $450 an hour
