EMS / Firefighter Captain

Makes a daily difference in the Campbell County organization and locality through: hard work, open and honest communication, ongoing improvement and accountability.

Performs with excellence, the following tasks, including but not limited to:

Developing, implementing and coordinating fire or emergency medical service training programs and services; prepares and maintains records and files;
Coordinates development and implementation of equipment, personnel and training standards for County Emergency Services personnel;
Oversee contract instructors for Fire or EMS;
Performs data collection and system effectiveness analysis related to Fire or EMS training;
Establishes and maintains a training library and resource pool of training aids, and other related materials;
Designs and implement a monthly continuing education program for uniformed personnel within the department;
Oversee a QA/QI program ensuring adequate service delivery; review results monthly with Deputy Director - EMS; recommends corrective actions.
Manages the release of new personnel in accordance with local protocols.
Assists volunteer agencies in implementing in house training programs;
Supports the volunteer fire and rescue service in all aspects of service delivery.
Plans and coordinates volunteer recruitment and retention programs.
Coordinate background checks and application processing for volunteer fire and rescue applicants.
Conduct system wide volunteer orientation program.
Maintain central training calendar.
Provides training to career and volunteer providers, as needed.
Participates in public relations, educational, recruitment and retention programs as directed by the Deputy Director – EMS.
Fills in for the Deputy Director – EMS as assigned.

Qualifications:

Completion of two years of college or graduation from a business college plus additional college level coursework in related programs.
Four years of full time, active emergency medical services experience.
Must have demonstrated supervisory experience in an EMS, fire or combination EMS/Fire agency with the ability to lead personnel, manage daily operations and effectively communicate with staff.
Current Virginia Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic Certification;
Current certification in ACLS, PALS, EVOC, and CPR
Certification in BTLS and / or PHTLS
Certification in Vehicle Extrication
Certification as Firefighter 2
Mass Casualty Incident Management training
Requires completion and current certification in NIMS IS-700, IS100, IS200 and IS300.
Valid Virginia Drivers’ License and insurable under the County’s policy.
Desirable:
EMT Instructor
ALS Coordinator
Current ACLS and/or PALS Instructor
Associates Degree in Related Field

Dependability as measured by attendance and punctuality;
Ability to work closely and harmoniously with others, especially the volunteers of Campbell County.
Employee will have to successfully complete a pre-employment physical, illicit drug screening and criminal background check.
