Job Description

Licensed Practical Nurse

Summary: - The LPN works with the practice team to provide direct and indirect patient care in the office setting under the supervision of the Practice Providers and the Practice Manager within the LPN scope of practice. This includes but is not limited to, utilization of skills in organization, planning, implementing, evaluating, and providing care through the use of hospital and practice nursing standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ability to obtain patient history, physical assessments, procedural assists, vital signs, rooming patients, and documentation/record keeping. Ability to organize and multitask as a forward-thinker and remain calm and personable in a face paced office setting.
  • Exceptional customer service skills acting as a liaison between patients, providers, and the care team to provide exceptional patient experiences.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn and adapt to the dynamics of a constantly changing health care environment and practice setting.
  • Provide assessments according to protocols and procedures, clinical competence in office specific procedural skills and treatments, patient/caregiver education, and act as patient advocate in the delivery and coordination of patient care.
  • May process pre-authorizations and prescription refills as appropriate.
  • Provide efficient and effective care working with Providers during clinical sessions, is reliable, flexible, and dependable. Able to manage a number of patients needs at the same time with high energy and organization as a team player.
  • Collaborates with other health care providers, Physicians, Practice Manager, clinical staff, and support staff regarding practice and patient needs.

    1. Qualifications:

Licensed Practical Nurse with a current Maine and/or New Hampshire license (as service location requires). Maintains and demonstrates competency in BLS (Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider) with a current certification (or to obtain within preliminary employment period), infections control, safety and all practice specific required skill review.

    1. Supervisory:

The incumbent in the position will not supervise other employees.

    1. Education/Experience:

Graduate of a state approved educational program in Practical Nursing. Three to five years related experience and/or training in a physician practice environment preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    1. Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    1. Math Ability:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    1. Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    1. Computer Skills:

Must be able to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, as well as web-based database programs and the Internet. Computer proficient with EMR experience preferred.

    1. Work Environment:

The incumbent in this position is not required to work under any extreme conditions, but may be required to work around caustic chemicals approximately 5% of the time, and must be able to work around a moderate noise level, such as an office environment.

    1. Physical Demands:

The incumbent in this position typically has to stand approximately 40% of the time, walk 50% of the time, and sit 10-80% of the time associated with a typical office environment. In addition, the person is using touch or feel 80% of the time, and reaches with their arms or hands approximately 80% of the time. This person may have to stoop, kneel, crouch 30% of the time, and talk or hear 100% of the time.

    1. Accountability:

As part of the care team the LPN is accountable for the oversight of the clinical practice, outcomes and success of patient care and experience in the Practice setting.

. Must have active LPN certification. Must have 2 + years of experience. Previously Cardiology experience a plus.
