Landscaping Manager in North Sioux City, South Dakota at Avalon Capital Group Inc

The Landscaping Manager will be responsible for planning and overseeing turf maintenance programs (mowing, fertilizing, aeration, irrigation) for a large estate. Areas include lawns, shrubs, native prairie grasses, limestone trails, wooded areas, and a marina. The right candidate will take pride in how the property looks and takes satisfaction in maintaining high standards.

Key Responsibilities

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Supervise and train assistant groundskeeping staff
• Overseas the daily workflow of the department
• Manage budget for landscaping supplies/equipment
• Maintain detailed Landscape Manual for property

Grass & Soil Care:

• Strong understanding of soil science, plant health, and turfgrass management programs
• Monitor turf health and diagnose diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies
• Ensure grass cutting and trimming are done to proper height and hardscapes such as driveways, sidewalks, limestone trails, padel court remain debris free and are blown off regularly.
• Responsible for implementing a fertilization schedule for lawn & evergreen trees

Irrigation Management:

• Manage and maintain irrigation system
• Schedule water based on weather and season
• Fix leaks and broken heads
• Make certain new and existing trees/shrubbery are on a watering schedule to ensure healthy growth

Pest & Weed Control:

• Identify and treat weeds, insects, fungus, and diseases
• Have a working knowledge of chemicals, fertilizers, and environmental safety practices
• Protect trees, shrubbery, and flowers from wildlife destruction

Equipment & Planning:

• Operation and preventative maintenance of equipment including mowers, trimmers, blowers, sprayers, tractors
• Plan seasonal care schedules
• Maintain limestone trails
• Maintain wooded tree areas, fallen trees/branch cleanup, plant new trees
• Winterize sprinkler system
• Snow removal at office, estate, staff guest house and storage facilities
• Spring clean-up, cut grasses back, mow prairie, fertilize trees
• Cost management - track landscape expenses, manage budgets, and provide reports as requested

Working Conditions:

• Split between outdoor landscaping and indoor planning
• May work early mornings, some weekends or extended hours during peak season
• Often on call for event preparation or weather damage

Education & Experience:

• Associate or bachelor’s degrees in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, or Plant Science preferred.
• Prior experience in groundskeeping or landscaping
