Job Summary

Working from an Indigenous worldview and under the supervision of the Manager of Family Wellness Supports, theFamily Violence Prevention Co-Coordinator supports the lead facilitator of theMen’s Warrior’s Program. This position is responsible for supporting the Men’sWarriors Program from a trauma informed, culturally grounded place, towardsproviding an opportunity for Indigenous Men to gain a deeper understanding offamily violence and its impact on self, family and community and work towardsending the cycle of family violence.

This position is a Part-Time Temporary position with approximately 20-25 hours per week with an expected end date of December 31, 2026. Hours and terms will be determined based on program needs.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a Family Violence Prevention Co-Coordinator, job duties includethe following:

• Helpingprepare for group sessions.

• Adjustingand modifying program curriculum depending on the needs of the group

• Supportthe intake of participants

• Maintainingmaterials and supplies for the program

• Connectingparticipants to appropriate support systems

• Collects andmaintains statistics and provides program and activity reporting to the funder

• Maintains accurate and up-to-date case notes

As a member of the VNFC Team,job duties include the following:

• Alwaysrepresenting the VNFC in a respectful manner.

• Attendrelevant professional training and meetings whendirected.

• Participate in staff development, staffmeetings and department meetings as required, including community and culturalevents.

• Participate in data collection andevaluation tasks as requested.

Knowledge and Skills

Familiarity and experience in Indigenous Communities

• Someknowledge of Indigenous cultures and practices including from the territory inwhich the work of VNFC takes place. Ability to speak about one’s own Indigenous culture, if applicable, andany communities the (prospective) employee has previously lived in or held jobswithin.

• In-depthknowledge of the experience of Indigenous peoples in Canada including theongoing processes of colonization, discrimination, and structural violence, andthe effects on the health and wellbeing of Indigenous communities;understanding of the wellness and healing capacities of Indigenous culturalresiliency and resurgence.

• Knowledge and practice of providing community-basedservices to Indigenous peoples using philosophies of cultural humility andcultural safety.

• Understanding of concerns and challenges facedby 2SLGBTQIA+ community

Communication Skills and Abilities

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills withthe ability to successfully develop and maintain relationships with diverseinternal and external partners.

• Excellent written communication skills withthe ability to independently maintain electronic correspondence, and otherforms of professional communication.

• Ability to effectively present informationand respond to questions from clients and the general public.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office365 including Word, Excel, and Outlook a requirement.

Leadership Skills and Abilities

• Mustbe able to work independently, as part of a team, and be dependable andself-motivated.

• Operateswith a strong understanding of ethics, boundaries, and understanding ofconfidentiality.

• Ability to remain composed and maintain aprofessional attitude in high stress situations.

• Ability to support Indigenous women throughpersonal crises.

Program Abilities and Knowledge

• Knowledgeand practicing from a strength-based, trauma informed, culturally sensitiveholistic approach.

• Awarenessof the challenges faced by participants including but not limited to boundaries,mental health, violence, and stress.

• Knowledge of the Child and Family CommunityService Act

• Ability to practice using philosophies ofcultural safety and humility, and trauma informed care.

• Ability to support Indigenous men throughpersonal crises.

• Knowledge and ability to work ethically andmaintain professional boundaries when working with vulnerable clients.

• Physical requirement - the role includesspending a major portion of the work hours sitting, standing, driving and/orwalking including stretching, bending, and lifting.

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

• Diploma or experience with strength-based, trauma informedpractice.

• Preference for past experience working in/withan Indigenous serving organization or community setting

• Recognizedcourse(s) related to position, particularly any focused on cultural safety andhumility; or equivalent lived and/or professional experience

Other

• Access to a reliable vehicle

• Valid BC Driver’s license and clean drivingrecord

• Required to provide current vulnerable sectorcriminal record check
