ELECTIONS CLERK
Grade: 4 $17.71/hour
Shift Available: Full - Time (Non-Exempt) (37.5HRS)
Summary of Job Functions:
• Greets and assists general public by providing information, instructions, or by receiving voter registration and vote-by-mail documents.
• Processes and files correspondence, documents, and court orders within the department.
• Opens, sorts, and distributes department mail.
• Answers public inquiries or directs callers to responsible agency or department.
• Completes and documents various mail duties as assigned.
• Operates computer or other office equipment as necessary.
• Assists with other clerical duties in absence of other staff members.
• Monitors and maintains department email/voicemail inbox, responds to inquiries, or forwards as necessary to appropriate personnel.
• Cross-trains with other positions in the office as necessary.
• Maintains nonpartisan demeanor.
• Updates and maintains files and records of all voters.
• Receives and processes voter applications.
• Processes paper and online applications for absentee and mail-in ballots.
• Ensures electors are assigned to correct precinct by utilizing the County GIS mapping system by researching new streets, number ranges, and assigning to proper precinct/precinct split in the SURE system.
• Assists with processes of Absentee & Mail-In ballots. Time stamps, sorts, records, files, and counts ballots. Completes paperwork and assists with daily drop box ballot retrieval.
• Assists with Election Night returns.
• Acts as liaison between County departments, municipal governments and state agencies.
• Attends meetings, trainings and seminars as required.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening, weekends and on an emergency, as needed, basis without advanced notice.
• Orders office supplies as required.
• Performs other job-related duties as required.
Minimum Training and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Computer training in basic/introductory Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel. Completion of at least one (1) business course beyond high school level. Two to three (2-3) years working experience in a professional office environment with public service background/elections preferred.
