Job Description
Assembly Supervisor
Working Supervisor • Custom Automation Equipment • On-Site
The Opportunity
Fusion Incorporated, a family-owned leader in brazing and soldering automation since 1933, is seeking a talented Assembly Supervisor to keep our innovative Machine Division running smoothly in Willoughby, Ohio.
With nearly a century of excellence, Fusion delivers cutting-edge automation solutions, custom brazing/soldering pastes, and precision equipment to manufacturers across automotive, aerospace, HVAC, and beyond—right here just outside Cleveland. We are looking for a hands-on Assembly Supervisor who can lead a shop-floor team, keep builds on schedule, and still pick up a wrench when the job calls for it.
This is a working supervisor role. You will assign work, develop builders, order materials, coordinate with Engineering, Purchasing, Test, and Shipping, and stay close to the machine from first sub-assembly through crate and ship.
What You Will Do
- Lead the floor. Supervise Assembly and Applicator teams. Assign work by skill, cross-train builders, and raise the overall capability of the department.
- Build with the team. Jump in on machine builds, sub-assemblies, machining support, wiring, painting, and other assembly work when the schedule needs it.
- Keep material moving. Order electrical, plumbing, hardware, tooling, lumber, and other supplies. Work with Purchasing to expedite purchased and vendor-machined parts.
- Protect quality at the door. Oversee incoming inspection of vendor items and coordinate with Shipping/Receiving on outside finishing of machined parts. Oversee any in-house machining needs.
- Partner across the building. Work with Engineering before and during builds. Sit in design reviews before final quotation. Attend weekly production meetings and Move-to-Test meetings. Support Test on debug, process, and lab samples when needed.
- Finish the job. Confirm machines are complete through Assembly. Package and crate finished equipment. Coordinate shipment with Shipping/Receiving.
- Support the customer and the business. Help Customer Service with component ID and recommendations. Keep Sales current on build status and new-machine potential. Work with HR to keep staffing at the right level.
- Work safely. Follow prescribed safety rules and set that example for the team. Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
We care more about a proven machine-builder who can lead people than about a perfect checklist. Strong candidates typically have:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Hands-on background in machining, electrical wiring, pipe bending and fitting, pneumatics and hydraulics, and reading blueprints — usually developed through applied training and shop time
- Experience supervising a shop-floor team (about 5 years is a solid benchmark; equivalent leadership on the floor also counts)
- Experience building electrical panels (about 5 years is typical)
- Deep time as a machine builder on automated equipment such as rotary or single-station machines (about 10 years is typical)
- Ability to read and markup drawings, wiring diagrams, and written instructions
- Comfort with hand tools and frequent lifting and moving of 20–30 lb. material
- Clear, direct communication with builders, engineers, purchasers, and customers
Basic MIG or TIG welding is a plus. Combinations of education, training, and experience that add up to the same capability are welcome.
Who Thrives Here
- You would rather solve a build problem on the floor than talk about it in a conference room
- You develop people — you notice who is ready for more and you teach
- You keep a schedule honest: material, people, and Engineering all stay in the loop
- You take pride in a machine that is complete, wired, tested-ready, and packed to ship
What we Offer:
- Medical, Dental, Prescription and Vision Coverage benefits
- Paid Vacation, Sick Days, Holidays, Bereavement, and Jury Duty
- 401(K) with Company Match and Discretionary Profit Sharing
- Company Paid Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance
- Company Paid Short- and Long-Term Disability Insurance
- Discretionary Company Bonus programs
This is a working supervisor role for someone who has built machines, led people, and still wants both. If you take pride in a build that is complete, on schedule, and ready to ship, we want to hear from you!
