Job Description:
Chesapeake Regional Airport is seeking an innovative and highly motivated candidate who thrives on working independently outdoors/indoors as an Airfield and Facilities Maintenance Technician. A successful candidate will have mechanical aptitude and the needed ability/skills to maintain airfield turf to specification standards, and make repairs, as necessary, to equipment, facilities, and structures that include electric bi-fold doors.

Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Operate turf tractors.
  • Make daily security checks and assessments.
  • Perform periodic maintenance and repair on electric bi-fold doors.
  • Maintain the current inventory of consumables.
  • Problem solve independently and remain personable.
  • Keep equipment usage logs.
  • Daily safety inspection of fuel facility.
  • Keep stormwater outfall records current.
  • Occasionally expected to climb ladders.

Please note: candidate will experience jarring and bouncing while operating turf tractors and exposed to aircraft noise.



Required Qualifications:
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Requires a high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in a construction or maintenance trade, or a closely related field.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with the City Driving Standards. Special skills or equipment certification may be required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to confined spaces. Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.

The purpose of this policy, in accordance with Title 49, CFR, Part 29 and the Drug-Free Work Place Act of 1988, is to ensure that the Chesapeake Airport Authority provides all of its employees with a drug-free and alcohol-free work place.

AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFYING FACTORS:
But are not limited to, the following:
Convicted of, plead guilty to, or no contest to any felony.
Convicted of, plead guilty to, or no contest to a misdemeanor involving acts of moral turpitude (lying, cheating, and stealing).
Convicted of, plead guilty to, or no contest to a misdemeanor sex offense.
Convicted of, plead guilty to, or no contest to domestic assault.
Conviction of possession, manufacture, and/or distribution of illegal drugs, INCLUDING possession of marijuana or any cannabis derivative due to the USDOT and FAA drug free work-place policy. Use of Cocaine, LSD, PCP, or any type of hallucinogenic drug in the last five years, unless the candidate:
o (i) has successfully completed a supervised drug rehabilitation program,
o (ii) is participating in a supervised drug rehabilitation program and is no longer engaging in the illegal use of drugs.

Proof of successful completion of or active participation in a supervised drug rehabilitation program must be furnished to the Chesapeake Regional Airport or Airport Authority.

Dishonorable discharge, Bad conduct/Misconduct discharge, and Other than Honorable discharges from military service. General and Uncharacterized discharges from military service will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
