Job Description

Orion Energy Systems, Inc

ORION ENERGY SYSTEMS, INC.

FABRICATION SUPERVISOR

JOB POSTING | MANITOWOC, WISCONSIN

First shift | Monday-Friday | Hands-on leadership | 3-8 direct reports

The Opportunity

Orion Energy Systems is seeking a hands-on Fabrication Supervisor to lead the first-shift fabrication team in Manitowoc. This role is a strong fit for an experienced fabrication professional who enjoys developing people, solving production problems, operating equipment, and working alongside the team rather than managing from an office.

You will lead 3 to 8 employees, including general laborers, machine operators, and a Fabrication Lead. You will be responsible for daily workflow, employee development, safety, quality, equipment readiness, schedule execution, and continuous improvement throughout the fabrication department.

What You Will Do
  • Lead, coach, train, and develop the first-shift fabrication team.
  • Practice servant leadership by staying engaged on the floor, supporting employees, removing obstacles, and jumping into production work when needed.
  • Coordinate daily production priorities, labor assignments, machine utilization, and department workflow.
  • Learn and become fully capable of operating all fabrication equipment and processes.
  • Operate and support equipment including Finn-Power turret punch presses, 8-foot Finn-Power press brakes, NC Express programming, sheet-processing equipment, and single-station punch presses.
  • Monitor safety, quality, schedule attainment, productivity, setup, downtime, and material flow.
  • Work with Engineering, Maintenance, Scheduling, Quality, Purchasing, Inventory Control, and other departments to resolve issues and keep work moving.
  • Drive cross-training, standard work, 5S, waste reduction, and practical continuous improvement.
  • Support employee performance reviews, attendance administration, coaching, corrective action, hiring, onboarding, and training.
  • Maintain clear communication regarding department status, constraints, equipment concerns, and recovery plans.
What We Are Looking For
  • At least three years of fabrication or sheet-metal manufacturing experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience as a supervisor, lead, trainer, or similar role.
  • Hands-on equipment experience and a willingness to work directly with operators.
  • Experience operating and setting up CNC sheet metal fabrication equipment, including turret punch presses, press brakes, and single-station punch presses; experience with machine programming, tooling, setups, and sheet processing preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting ability, and attention to safety and quality.
  • A servant-leadership mindset that combines support for employees with clear expectations and accountability.
  • Ability to read drawings, work instructions, and production requirements.
  • Strong organization, communication, and cross-functional problem-solving skills.
  • High school diploma or GED required. Related associate degree is preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered.
Schedule

Monday through Friday, generally beginning at 5:00 or 6:00 a.m. and ending at 2:00 or 3:00 p.m. Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required based on business needs.

Why This Role Matters

The Fabrication Supervisor directly influences employee development, equipment capability, material flow, product quality, production performance, and the department’s ability to meet customer commitments. Success in this position requires both strong leadership and the willingness to become a true technical resource for the fabrication team.

Orion Energy Systems is an equal opportunity employer.
