Assistant Manager - Garden Shop at Wilson Farm – Lexington, Massachusetts

Who are we looking for?

Wilson Farm is hiring a full-time Assistant Manager to join our Garden Shop team. This position has an hourly rate of pay of $22-$28 based on experience.

Primary Responsibilities

· Assist customers in our busy garden shop and yard area with their questions and selecting plants and associated seasonal products

· Plant ordering ahead of seasons to ensure outstanding selections available to customers

· Plant maintenance: watering, feeding, clean up etc.

· Merchandising plants, garden shop to encourage sales

· General clean up of greenhouse, shop and yard area to maintain neat appearance

Experience/Qualifications Needed

· Prior experience and working knowledge of plant material (annual, perennial, house plants) and associated gardening products required

· Certificate or degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Landscaping a plus!

· Retail/cashiering experience desirable

· Outstanding customer service skills, excellent work ethic

· Enthusiastic, outgoing personality; positive attitude

· Reliable/punctual - reliable transportation

· Excellent communications skills - answering the phone and in person

· Must be at least 18 years of age to hold this position

Work Schedule

· Full-time (45-50 hours/week).

· Schedule will be a mix of “opening” and “closing” schedules on weekdays and weekend days

· Holiday periods will require more hours and flexibility in schedule (which is greatly appreciated) to meet business needs.

Physical requirements

· Standing/bending/reaching for prolonged periods of time

· Must be able to lift approx.30-40+lb bagged goods (soils and fertilizers) and additional products such as bundled firewood, ice melt

· Up/down stairs

· Working in both hot summer and cold winter conditions
