Machinist I at Horizontal Machining and Manufacturing Inc – Huron, South Dakota

Summary

The Machinist Level 1 is responsible for the basic machining tasks and operation of equipment to

produce precision parts and components to meet customer needs. This will require working with

various materials and tools to contribute to the manufacturing process. The ideal candidate will

possess a strong desire to learn and grow in the field of machining.

Essential Functions

? Operate production equipment to produce precision machined parts. This includes CNS,

mills, lathes, etc.

? Safely operate forklift and hoist.

? Place and install fixtures and gusset plates.

? Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job.

? Take measurements and mark material for cutting or shaping.

? Select appropriate machines (e.g. lathes) and position or load material for a job.

? Interpret basic company blueprints, drawings, and measurements to plan layouts.

? Maintain work area and production equipment in clean and orderly condition. Follow all

safety work rules.

? Other duties as assigned.

? Knowledge of required tools needed and how to use them.

? Understands how to use a tape measure including calipers and micrometers.

? Understands how to set up production equipment.

? Can read basic blueprints.

? Can operate the hoist and forklift.

? Can use and locate fixtures or gusset plates.

? Becomes forklift certified while in this position.

? Can do basic problem solving.

? Adhere to safe work practices outlined by HMMI.

? Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

? Must have a self starter attitude.

? Superior communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to communicate information

in a clear and concise manner.

? Experience in running machinery and equipment.

? Has a willingness to learn.
