  • Date class is scheduled to begin: January 12, 2026
  • Class schedule: Synchronous course with weekly Zoom meetings. Spring semester (January 12, 2026, through May 1, 2026)
  • Duration of class: Spring semester (January 12, 2026, through May 1, 2026)
  • Time of class: Weekly evening Zoom meetings required.

Foundations of Literacy II: Literacy Across the Content Areas- This course explores the role of literacy across the content areas, emphasizing strategies for integrating reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills in diverse disciplines. This course examines research-based instructional methods, culturally relevant pedagogy, and curriculum literacy practices to support literacy development in mathematics, science, social studies, and other subject areas. Special attention is given to disciplinary literacy, differentiation for diverse learners, and strategies for fostering engagement with complex texts. This course prepares individuals with the knowledge, skills, and tools to integrate literacy instruction seamlessly into the content areas, ensuring students become proficient readers, writers, and thinkers across all disciplines.

Compensation:

$500 - $1,200 per credit. Adjunct faculty pay rates vary, depending on the academic discipline and the course's credit load and level.

Requirements:

  • Degree requirements for position: A minimum of a Master's degree in Special Education or related field (ie, Reading Specialist)
  • Previous teaching experience: minimum of 5 years of teaching English Language Arts/Special Education in Massachusetts K12 Public Schools.
  • Ability to adhere to University policies and procedures.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • General knowledge of the University's mission, purpose, and goals and the role this position plays in achieving those goals.
