About This Position
In addition to the positions base salary, this position will be eligible for a commission/bonus based off lessons taught.
The Assistant Golf Professional assists with all golf shop activities and outside services operations and is responsible for ensuring guests receive outstanding customer service. The Assistant Golf Professional may assist in organizing and implementing golf events, tournaments, outings, leagues, and other golf programs designed to improve the courses products and services as well as its competitive position in the marketplace. They will also design and teach golf lessons for players of all ages and abilities, creating engaging lesson plans and providing instruction to help improve skills, understanding of the game, and enjoyment of the sport.

The work environment for this position includes a combination of indoor and outdoor settings. The Assistant Golf Professional primarily works in the Pro Shop, but is also regularly required to be on the golf course, practice facilities, or event spaces to support instruction, tournaments, and customer service activities.
This role involves frequent interaction with the public, including patrons of all ages and backgrounds, as well as vendors, contractors, and City staff. The position often requires long periods of standing and walking, including over uneven terrain such as fairways and cart paths. Work may involve carrying golf bags, merchandise, or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
The employee may be exposed to various weather conditions including sun, wind, rain, and temperature fluctuations. The role routinely uses standard office equipment (computers, phones, adding machines, fax machines, filing cabinets) as well as point-of-sale systems, tee sheet management software (e.g., ForeUp), and golf-related equipment such as carts, radios, and instructional technology.
This position requires a flexible schedule and may include early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet the operational needs of the golf course. The noise level is typical of an office or retail environment indoors, and includes ambient outdoor sounds when working on the course or practice areas.

- Greets guests, provides prompt, courteous and friendly customer service.
- Develops and implements golf instruction programs for individuals and groups, including creating lesson plans tailored to varying skill levels and providing hand-on instruction in golf fundamentals, techniques, and etiquette.
- Manages reservation system, checks guests in, collects fees, and assigns tee times; informs players of course rules and regulation, maintains logs.
- Sells merchandise, maintains inventory records, and accurately reconciles cash register sales with daily sales reports.
- Keeps updated on and provides information on upcoming tournaments and events.
- Assists in coordinating and providing assistance in tournaments and events.
- Assists guests with all their needs while in the pro shop; Ensures inquiries and requests are met efficiently and professionally; Ensures complaints are dealt with in a pleasant manner and recorded for the Golf Course Administrative Supervisor.
- Maintains the pro shop environment by keeping the shop neat and orderly by general housekeeping duties: maintains, cleans, and straightens merchandise displays, cleans facility.
- Records and documents any safety hazards or other important situations immediately to supervisor.
- Accepts orders/shipments and stocks shelves/racks. Advises supervisor of receipt of items and inventory levels as needed.
- Answers phones, direct calls, and answer customer questions professionally.
- Maintain cleanliness of public restrooms.
- Ensures collection and recording receipt of appropriate payment (cash, credit card transactions); Handles and records cash and credit card transactions in accordance with department and City procedures.
- Follows procedures for proper opening and closing of pro shop.
- Maintains positive professional and effective working relationships by providing exceptional customer service.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity.
- May be required to work early mornings, evenings, holidays or weekends as needed.
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures; follows safety policies and practices, works in a safe manner, and reports unsafe activity and conditions.
- Assists with the training of seasonal and part-time staff.
- Promotes course programs, memberships, and merchandise to drive revenue.
- Assists with golf programs, clinics, and community outreach efforts.
- High School Diploma; Bachelors Degree in Recreation Management, or related field preferred.
- Professional Certification or ability to obtain (such as certification from PGA, TPI, USGTF, etc.)
- Two years of customer service experience
- One year of experience in the golf or hospitality industry preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- OLCC License or ability to obtain by time of hire.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Working knowledge of golf rules, etiquette, and tournament operations.
- Ability to lead individual and group instruction sessions and adapt to various learning styles.
- Modern office practices, methods, procedures and equipment.
- Record-keeping principles, procedures and techniques.
- Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
- Experience providing positive and professional customer service.
- Basic to moderate general computer use and online systems management.
- Ability to follow directives from supervisors.
