Salary Range: $18.77 - $22.59 Hourly

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

Obtains blood samples from inpatients/outpatients by established collection techniques appropriate to the age/level of difficulty of the patient, Performs all duties to the identification/accessioning/labeling/distribution of samples for assay. Performs all skills as defined by department competency checklists.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Successful completion of a formal medical assistant/phlebotomy training program. National certification preferred not required

  • 37.5 Hour Work Week

Essential Functions:

Aids in instructing and orienting new hires/students as requested.

Assists elderly and handicapped patients as needed; processes outpatients in a courteous manner.

Consistently able to meet dept standard of 10 patients/hr

Consults with supervisor (s) or lab technical staff when necessary.

Demonstrates courtesy when communicating with other medical professionals; patients; visitors

Is able to commit to change and sustain processes established in department to improve patient/physician satisfaction.

Is competent in the use of BD. Id system for sample collection.

Is familiar with downtime procedures for LIS and SMS

Is familiar with the use of the pneumatic tube system for the receipt and distribution of samples; can recognize system errors.

Keeps cart and tray stocked; rotates stock; keeps carts and tray organized for efficient workflow.

Performs all functions in LIS relating to sample processing.

Prioritize STAT samples; collects, processes, distributes

Responsible for strict adherence to established protocol for patient identification as outlined by lab/hospital policies. Follows all policies relating to identification, collection and labeling.

Understands overall lab workflow and the phlebotomist’s role in meeting lab standards for turn around time.
