About This Position
Pierce Transit is currently recruiting for a customer focused and detail-oriented professional to fill the Risk Specialist job in our Risk Department located in Lakewood.
As the Risk Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting agency risk management programs by providing information and customer service, maintaining accurate logs, files and databases and preparing correspondence. The Risk Specialist is the first level in the risk job series and reports to the agency Risk Manager by providing administrative and data integrity support for the department.

Pierce Transit employees participate in the Washington Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) administered by the Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Employees must elect to participate in PERS Plan 2 or PERS Plan 3. Employees who have participated in the Tacoma Employee’s Retirement System (TERS) may elect to continue to participate in that system.
Employees in the PERS system do not pay the 6.2% Social Security tax but are still responsible for a 1.45% payment for Medicare.
Pierce Transit offers $5,000 per year (up to a total of $18,000) in Tuition Assistance after your one-year anniversary. Certifications, and career skills must be connected to a job at Pierce Transit.
Pierce Transit provides an ORCA Card benefit for each employee and a family member. This benefit provides free access to service on Pierce Transit, Sound Transit, Community Transit, Everett Transit, King County Metro, Kitsap Transit, Seattle Monorail, Seattle Streetcar, King County Water Taxi and Kitsap Foot Ferry.
PAID LEAVE:
Full-time Pierce Transit employees receive 11 paid holidays, 2 personal paid holidays, eligibility to earn 2 wellness days, 6 days of major sick leave, and 22 days of paid time off (PTO) per year. PTO accrual rates increase per policy.
- Provides first line customer service and administrative support to and serves as administrative liaison for the Risk Department.
- Updates and maintains databases, develops reports, and assists with general liability claims.
- Maintains a variety of statistical and financial records and reports, including history of liability and value of vehicles.
- Monitors Agency's property damage claims and utilizes Agency's Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system to create applicable work orders.
- Monitors drive license, commercial driver license and Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card database, identify expired licenses and report to appropriate person for action.
- Gathers, compiles, and reviews data from a variety of sources. Performs data entry and reviews input for accuracy and completeness.
- Provides input to the development of data quality metrics. Detects and troubleshoots data quality issues and propose practices to prevent problems and ensure accuracy through each phase of the processing life cycle.
- Responds to Public Records Requests and customer service inquiries.
- Attends various Risk Management related meetings and trainings.

Required:
- High school diploma, or equivalent and
- Three (3) years of related administrative experience or general risk experience (financial, operational, compliance, and/or cyber).
- Associate Degree in Risk Management Public Administration, Business or related field.
- Public sector experience desired.

Education
Any required education must come from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U S Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent.
