About This Position
This position provides goal directed support and solution-focused interventions to achieve treatment goals and objectives identified in the client’s individualized treatment plan. This position facilitates services that are designed to assist the client with functional deficits and interpersonal and/or environmental barriers associated with their mental illness. At times this position will provide services to clients who are experiencing a psychiatric crisis and assist with stabilization or connection to needed resources. The specialist will provide assistance in the form of direct support, modeling, providing connection to resources and referrals and providing education to support independent performance of tasks. Most contacts will occur in community locations where the client lives, works, attends school and/or socializes. Activities are prescribed by a clinician.
Key responsibilities:
- Required to follow dress code policies of any alternative work locations, including but not limited to schools, jails, courts, detention centers, other community partners, etc.
- Assist in assessment of client needs.
- Assist in the development of treatment plans.
- Assist clients in accessing community-based resources including providing transportation for clients when necessary and supporting access to health-related providers.
- Assist clients in building life skills, learning to manage symptoms and promoting self-advocacy.
- Assist clients in implementing tasks related to treatment plan goals.
- Collaborate with community partners and agencies to assist in following treatment plan goals and to assist in securing appropriate community resources.
- Advocate and empower clients to ensure that appropriate services are provided, and necessary benefits are secured.
- Work closely with clinical and medical staff in the utilization of medication services.
- Provide information and support to family members of clients as appropriate.
- Assist with crisis management as needed.
- Complete all required documentation for services provided in the electronic medical record in a timely manner. Update demographic information as applicable.
- Required to meet department productivity standards and documentation standards.
Requirements:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent is required.
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in the various behavioral health fields such as clinical psychology, social work, counseling, nursing, rehabilitation or closely related degree, is preferred.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Pass pre-employment background checks.
- Previous experience in a community mental health center is preferred.
- Experience in helping professionals and occupations is desired and helpful.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Staff will meet competency expectations, including integration of evidence-based practices and required certifications by successfully completing the following training which will be conducted in all the following manners, but not limited to in-person training, online training, webinars, seminars, workshops, and self-directed training. All training, certifications, and competencies will be documented by completion of certificates when available and maintained by the Training department.
- Obtain Certification for Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training. MOAB is an in-depth training program that teaches individuals how to recognize, reduce, and manage violent and aggressive behavior. Training is provided.
- MOAB training requires controlled movements, body positioning, and the ability to perform physical holds and restraint techniques.
- The focus of MOAB training is to use techniques that can be effectively applied by employees of varying physical capabilities while minimizing potential harm to both the individual being restrained and the trained themselves.
- First Aid CPR Training.
Physical Requirements:
- Be able to get on the floor and rise without assistance
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking
