Position Summary
As a Server at Sugoi Sushi, you deliver exceptional customer service as your top priority—greeting guests, answering menu questions, taking accurate food and drink orders, and promptly delivering items to ensure a great dining experience. In addition to front-of-house duties, you will assist with dishwashing and line cleanup when needed, working efficiently to maintain a clean, organized service flow. Strong communication with BOH and team members, attention to detail, and a positive, team-first attitude are essential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet, welcome, and seat guests promptly and courteously; create a positive first impression.
- Explain menu items, specials, and make informed recommendations; actively upsell when appropriate.
- Take accurate food and drink orders and enter them into the POS system; confirm special requests and allergies.
- Communicate allergies, dietary restrictions, or special instructions clearly and promptly to kitchen staff.
- Follow OLCC and store policies for alcohol service, ID verification, and responsible service.
- Answer phone inquiries, take to-go orders, and assist with online order processing.
- Ensure orders are prepared and delivered quickly and accurately; inspect plates for quality and presentation.
- Monitor guest needs throughout the meal—refill drinks, clear plates, and provide timely check-backs.
- Resolve routine customer concerns immediately and escalate more complex issues to management.
- Assist with dishwashing and line cleaning during service and as scheduled; maintain clean, stocked server station.
- Complete side prep tasks (e.g., cutting cucumbers, refilling condiments), support tempura station and other prep areas as needed.
- Pack and label to-go orders accurately and efficiently.
- Operate all POS functions (orders, payments, discounts, rewards); reconcile transactions and handle cash/cards securely.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health-code procedures; maintain a clean dining and kitchen environment.
- Assist kitchen staff and other team members during peak periods or as requested.

- Perform other duties as assigned to support smooth restaurant operations.
Qualifications and Skills
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills; ability to create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
- Strong multitasking, time-management, and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Positive, professional attitude and reliable work ethic; punctual with strong attendance.
- Thorough knowledge of the menu, ingredients, and common allergens.
- Team-oriented with the ability to communicate clearly with front- and back-of-house staff.
- Comfortable operating POS systems, tablets, and basic restaurant electronics.
- Current or ability to obtain required certifications (food handler permit, OLCC/service card) within 30 days of hire.
- Willingness and ability to rotate through stations (support delivery, primary/secondary server, server help, to-go, prep/delivery, tempura).
- Basic cash-handling accuracy and accountability.
Physical Requirements and Job Conditions
- Ability to stand and walk for entire shifts; regularly bend, stoop, reach, and carry items.
- Capable of lifting, carrying, and serving trays or boxes up to 50 lbs.; balance a tray with one hand while serving with the other.
- Work in hot, steamy, and cold kitchen and dining-room environments.
- Manual dexterity for food prep tasks (cutting, chopping) and handling utensils safely.

- This role is on-site; not eligible for telework or flex remote arrangements.
- Schedule may include nights, weekends, and holidays as required by operational needs.
