Bus Washer Shunter Position Overview
Coach Canada is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Shunter to support fleet readiness and yard operations. This is a safety-sensitive position responsible for the safe movement, staging, and preparation of buses and company vehicles within the yard, garage, and wash bay.
The Shunter plays a key role in ensuring vehicles are positioned appropriately for maintenance, inspections, servicing, and operational departures — directly contributing to on-time performance, regulatory compliance, and overall operational efficiency.

Bus Washer Shunter Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Movement & Staging
- Safely maneuver buses and company vehicles within the yard, garage, and wash bay
- Stage vehicles for maintenance, refueling, cleaning, inspections, and departures
- Secure vehicles using proper safety procedures when parking and exiting
- Record odometer readings and complete required logs and tracking documentation
- Immediately report mechanical defects, damage, hazards, or unsafe conditions
Cleaning & Operational Support
- Perform interior and exterior cleaning of charter and coach buses as required
- Maintain wash bay areas, yard spaces, and grounds in clean and orderly condition
- Support workflow coordination between wash bay and maintenance teams
- Assist with vehicle repositioning and shift transitions
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain constant awareness in high-traffic or confined areas
- Follow all Company safety policies, PPE requirements, and wash bay procedures
- Participate in mandatory training (WHMIS, Violence & Harassment Prevention, safety-sensitive training, etc.)
- Comply with random, post-incident, or reasonable-cause drug and alcohol testing as required
Bus Washer Shunter Qualifications
- Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented
- Strong ability to work in a fast-paced, safety-sensitive environment
- Flexible availability, including weekends and shift work
- Valid Class G driver’s licence required
- Willingness to upgrade to DZ, AZ, CZ, or BZ licence as operationally required
- Class DZ or AZ licence considered an asset
- Clean driving abstract acceptable to the Company
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Previous experience in transportation, maintenance, or industrial environments considered an asset
Bus Washer Shunter Working Conditions
- Indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Frequent vehicle movement and yard activity
- Regular standing, walking, bending, climbing, and repetitive tasks
- Ability to safely lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs
- Exposure to noise, fumes, cleaning chemicals, water, and moving vehicles
