About the Team & Product - DXi
DXi is Quantum’s high-performance, disk-based backup and deduplication solution, designed to protect enterprise data across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. The DXi engineering team develops and owns one of the fastest and most efficient backup platforms in the industry. Our globally distributed team builds scalable, reliable services that manage and optimize data workflows while enabling cost efficiency and performance at scale.
About the Role
As a Senior Manager, DXi Engineering, you will lead a team responsible for building and evolving Quantum’s DXi platform across deduplication, backup, replication, and data protection workflows. You will own execution across multiple workstreams, drive technical strategy, grow team capability, and ensure reliable delivery of features that meet enterprise standards for performance, resiliency, and supportability.
You will partner closely with Product Management, QA, Support, and Hardware/Systems teams to deliver roadmap commitments, improve engineering operational excellence, and strengthen quality and release readiness practices. This role reports to our SVP of Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team; own hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development.
- Establish clear goals, team operating cadence, and execution mechanisms (planning, reviews, retrospectives, incident/postmortems).
- Own delivery of roadmap initiatives across backup, deduplication, replication, and data protection; manage priorities, dependencies, and risks to ensure predictable outcomes.
- Provide technical leadership on architecture and design decisions to ensure scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability across the platform.
- Drive cross-functional alignment with Product, QA, Support, and Systems teams to ensure release readiness and stakeholder clarity.
- Set and enforce engineering quality bars: code review standards, CI/CD health, and release governance.
- Lead root-cause analysis for defects and field issues and implement systemic improvements (automation, testability, observability).
- Partner with QA to ensure adequate validation coverage (functional, regression, performance, interoperability, hardware qualification as applicable).
- Run an effective Agile workflow (Scrum/Kanban), maintaining backlog health and continuous improvement in delivery flow.
- Drive responsible adoption of AI tools (Copilot, Cursor, Claude, and similar) to accelerate development, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation, with secure usage guidelines.
- Track and improve engineering outcomes using actionable metrics (cycle time, quality/escape rate, MTTR) and process/tooling enhancements.
Job Requirements
- BS or MS degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related technical field preferred.
- 10+ years of people management experience in software engineering (Senior Manager-level scope preferred), including leading multiple engineers and/or leaders across projects.
- Strong track record delivering enterprise software in areas such as backup/recovery, deduplication, storage systems, data protection, or distributed systems.
- Demonstrated success driving cross-functional alignment, release execution, and operational rigor in a high-availability product environment.
- Experience leading globally distributed teams and managing priorities across time zones (preferred).
- Willing and able to come to our office in Centennial, CO at least 3x/week (core in-office hours are Tuesday - Thursday from 10am-4pm)

- Strong systems background in Linux and troubleshooting complex distributed/storage environments.
- Familiarity with enterprise storage and connectivity concepts (e.g., SAN, NAS, DAS; protocols and interoperability expectations).
- Experience with source control and modern engineering practices (Git, CI/CD pipelines) and Agile methodologies.
- Comfort guiding architecture/design reviews, performance analysis, and reliability improvements at scale.
Desired Skills/Competencies
- Strong people leadership: coaching, feedback, conflict resolution, and talent development.
- Excellent communication: able to translate technical tradeoffs into clear outcomes for stakeholders.
