Position Summary
The Certified Wound Care Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing specialized assessment, treatment, and management of acute and chronic wounds within a correctional healthcare setting. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based wound care while collaborating with medical providers and nursing staff to promote optimal healing outcomes.

This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based wound care while collaborating with medical providers and nursing staff to promote optimal healing outcomes.
The Wound Care RN serves as a clinical resource and educator, supporting staff in best practices and maintaining compliance with healthcare standards, infection control protocols, and facility policies..
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive wound assessments and develop individualized care plans
- Provide treatment for acute, chronic, and complex wounds, including pressure injuries, ulcers, and surgical wounds
- Monitor wound healing progress and adjust care plans as needed
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care
- Ensure proper documentation of wound assessments, treatments, and outcomes
- Educate nursing staff on wound care best practices, prevention strategies, and treatment protocols
- Implement and monitor infection control practices related to wound care
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, policies, and procedures
- Maintain inventory and proper use of wound care supplies and equipment
- Provide patient education on wound care and prevention when applicable
- Respond to clinical concerns related to skin integrity and wound management
Qualifications
- Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license (state-specific)
- Wound Care Certification (WCC, CWCN, or equivalent) required or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with wound care experience preferred
- Current BLS/CPR certification
- Experience in correctional healthcare, long-term care, or acute care preferred
- Strong knowledge of wound care protocols, infection control, and skin integrity management
- Excellent clinical assessment, documentation, and communication skills
- Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and security clearance
Work Environment
- Correctional facility setting
- Requires adherence to strict safety and security procedures
- May involve working with patients with complex medical and behavioral health needs
