Position Information


Under the supervision of the Security Services Lead, this position is responsible for guarding and protecting University and library property with a high intrinsic or monetary value. The Library Safety Officer will respond to and follow up on all issues within the library buildings. Acts as deterrent to criminal activity by routinely patrolling the library buildings. The incumbent must be able to work Sunday 12:45 p.m. to 9:15 p.m., and Monday through Thursday 3:15 pm to 12:15 am; must have the flexibility to cover day shifts, as needed, due to scheduling issues. During the last week of instruction and finals, the incumbent will be called upon to work extended hours and consecutive days, including graveyard shifts.The full salary range for the Library Safety Officer is $21.34 - $27.59 per hour. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $26.01 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.Finalists will be asked to complete an incident report based on a hypothetical scenario as part of the interview process.

Follow oral and written instructions and be able to write concise, logical reports on security incidents. Ability to remain calm and patient in order to handle difficult situations with tact and diplomacy. Ability to organize work, establish priorities and meet deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work successfully in an intensely collaborative environment with a broad range of people from culturally diverse backgrounds including colleagues, administrators, students, faculty, donors, and alumni. Demonstrated ability to train safety personnel. Ability to work occasional scheduled and unscheduled overtime, emergency call-back, and a flexible schedule as needed. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated ability to instruct others on best practices for dealing with emergency situations.
