About This Position
2nd Shift: 16 hours Friday and Saturday 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
Position: Residential Aide
Program: Emergency Housing
Scope of Service: The Safety Monitor is responsible for effectively maintaining the safety and security of the facility by being alert and routinely monitoring the building to ensure the safety and security of all occupants. This role involves monitoring premises, ensuring safety protocols are kept, and responding to emergencies as needed. The Safety Monitor reports to the Program Manager working in tandem with the program residential team, while treating all clients with respect and dignity in support of Continuum’s mission. Performs other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Monitors the lobby by screening and managing entry of individuals.
• Wands individuals returning to the program, checking bags, and scanning
individuals for contraband.
• Conducts checks in a dignified manner, maintaining respect and dignity for each
individual.
• Monitors visitors to the Diversion Center, assessing for potential influence of
drugs or alcohol. Reports concerns promptly to residential team.
• Inform visitors of policies and procedures, ensures visitors remain in designated
areas.
• Secures and locks the building when not open to the public.
• Conducts ongoing walkthroughs to ensure safety and security is maintained,
inspects building equipment, and access points permitting entry.
• Completes and maintains all required safety logs and ensures log reflects
activities of the shift.
• Effectively deescalates situations as they arise in a calm and professional
manner.
• Effectively responds to emergencies as they occur. Interacts with ambulance,
police, and first responders, as applicable.
• Administers drug tests, including urinalysis and breathalyzers, as needed.
• Monitors residents to self-administer medication as needed.
• Informs the supervisor of any problems or incidents and completes incident
reports as they occur.
• Handles emergencies that arise during their shift, including notification of
managers.
• Prevent losses and damage by reporting irregularities.
• Maintain agency's stability and reputation by complying with legal, ethical, and
regulatory requirements.
• Attend monthly staff meetings and quarterly trainings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Environmental Responsibilities:
• Participates in regular property upkeep and maintenance.
• Helps to ensure the facility is clean and safe by performing general cleaning
duties and safety checks.
• Generates work orders with manager, as needed.
• Conducts regular property inspections.
• Ensures safe and secure environment.
Quality Assurance:
• Adheres to policies and practices as outlined in the staff handbook and
operations manual.
• Consistently works in a respectful, constructive, and cooperative manner.
• Upholds all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
regulations and secures all necessary releases of information for outside
communication.
• Models culturally competent behavior interacting with clients, professionals, and
fellow staff.
• Maintains accurate electronic records and case files as assigned and in
accordance with programming, contractual, licensing, and accreditation
requirements.
• Adheres to the standards of the Council on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation
Facilities (CARF).
• Participates in agency committee work when available or as permitted.
• Completes all trainings as required per program contract and agency policy.
• Attends agency sponsored in-services, outside trainings, conferences and
meetings to facilitate continued professional growth and ensure the quality of
case management practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s or Associates preferred. High School Diploma or equivalent
considered with relevant experience in a related field.
• Experience and comfortable working with people who are homeless, who may
have serious mental illness, intellectual/developmental disability, and/or
addiction.
• Knowledge of the community support system and resources preferred.
• Valid Connecticut Driver’s license with clean driving record is required. Scattered
site and non-24 hr. program positions require the employee to maintain reliable
transportation and be willing to transport clients in personal vehicles.
• First Aid/CPR certification. Employee is responsible to maintain ongoing
certification.
