Position Summary
The Field Service Technician will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of various types of mobile rental/construction equipment and on-highway trucks that are deployed at customer sites. The ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems including the use of OEM software and other diagnostic tools is essential. Experience servicing and repairing on-highway trucks including diesel engines and brakes is a requirement. The Field Service Technician is a highly independent role requiring strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
· Travel to customer job sites to inspect, diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair rental equipment in the field.
· Perform mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and other repairs on heavy equipment and rental fleet assets.
· Respond to service calls and equipment breakdowns promptly to minimize customer downtime and keep projects moving.
· Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, adjustments, and minor repairs to ensure equipment is safe, reliable, and ready for operation.
· Diagnose equipment issues using service manuals, diagnostic tools, schematics, and technical knowledge to determine the appropriate repair.
· Communicate with customers, operators, dispatch, and branch personnel regarding equipment issues, repair status, and service needs.
· Maintain accurate documentation of inspections, repairs, parts used, labor, and equipment condition.
· Determine when repairs can be completed in the field and when equipment should be returned to the branch or shop for more extensive repairs.
· Maintain a properly stocked service vehicle and ensure necessary tools, parts, and equipment are available for field repairs.
· Follow all company safety policies and applicable OSHA, DOT, and equipment manufacturer requirements while working at customer locations.
· Provide professional, courteous service while representing the company and maintaining a customer-focused approach.
· Assist with equipment setup, recovery, delivery/pickup, or other branch service needs as necessary.
· Produce timely and detailed service reports
· Uphold and practice high safety standards
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills
· Strong mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diagnostic troubleshooting skills.
· Ability to independently diagnose problems, determine appropriate repairs, and complete repairs in the field with minimal supervision.
· Strong knowledge of heavy equipment systems, components, and manufacturer specifications.
· Ability to read and interpret service manuals, hydraulic schematics, electrical diagrams, and technical documentation.
· Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and other tools required for field repairs.
· Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and find solutions when unexpected issues arise.
· Ability to work effectively with limited direct oversight and take ownership of assigned equipment and service calls from start to finish.
· Strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to maintain service records, track parts and materials, and manage a service vehicle.
· Professional communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with customers, equipment operators, dispatchers, and branch personnel.
· Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; CDL preferred.
· Ability and willingness to travel regularly to customer locations and work varying schedules, including occasional overtime, evenings, or weekends as needed.
Education & Experience
· 3+ years of experience repairing and maintaining heavy equipment, construction equipment, industrial equipment, or similar machinery.
· High School Diploma or equivalent required, technical degree preferred
License & Certification
· Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record, CDL preferred
Working Conditions
This position works primarily in the field at customer job sites, construction sites, industrial facilities, and other outdoor environments. The role is regularly exposed to varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, rain, wind, and other inclement weather. Work is performed around operating heavy equipment, vehicles, machinery, construction activities, and other job-site hazards and may require working in confined, elevated, awkward, or difficult-to-access areas, including climbing onto or underneath heavy equipment. The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, climbing, and working in physically demanding positions for extended periods, as well as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling tools, parts, hoses, and equipment. The technician may be exposed to grease, oils, fuels, hydraulic fluids, dirt, dust, noise, and other conditions commonly associated with heavy equipment repair and maintenance. The employee must use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all company and customer safety requirements. This position requires frequent travel between customer locations and independent work with limited direct supervision. Work schedules may vary based on customer and equipment needs and may occasionally require early mornings, evenings, weekends, overtime, or emergency service calls.

· Prolonged standing, crouching, bending, climbing, stooping, reaching, twisting, pushing, and pulling, repetitive wrist and hand movements, hearing and seeing (depth perception and peripheral vision)
· Standing for long periods of time

· Work outside in all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold
· Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts
· Frequently exposed to fumes and airborne particles
· Must be able to safely climb various types of ladders
· Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds
· Must be able to climb on and off trucks, cranes, and heavy mobile equipment safely
· Frequent walking on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
Travel Requirements
· Daily, overnight travel rarely required
