The City of Vacaville invites applications for the position of Paralegal. One (1) vacancy currently exists within the City Attorney's Office. This recruitment will also establish an eligibility list to be used for any future full-time, part-time and limited-term vacancies over the next 12-months.
Salary Information:
$85,653 - $104,1225/year
A 2% COLA is scheduled for 11/1/2026

The City of Vacaville is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Paralegal to provide advanced legal and administrative support to the City Attorney’s Office and Risk Management. This position performs complex, technical, and highly confidential work in support of municipal legal operations, litigation, and public records compliance. The ideal candidate will exercise sound independent judgment, demonstrate strong legal research and writing skills, and work collaboratively with attorneys, City staff, courts, and external partners in a fast-paced environment.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conducts comprehensive legal and factual research, including analysis of statutes, case law, ordinances, regulations, and administrative decisions; summarizes findings and prepares recommendations for attorneys.
- Drafts, edits, proofs, and citation-checks a wide variety of legal documents, including pleadings, discovery, contracts, public records responses, ordinances, resolutions, and correspondence.
- Provides litigation support by coordinating subpoenas, depositions, hearings, filings, trial notebooks, and other case-related materials; assists with claims management and responses to liability matters.
- Maintains confidential legal files and record-keeping systems; tracks calendars, deadlines, and court requirements; and serves as a key point of contact with City departments, courts, claim adjusters, investigators, and outside counsel.
The ideal candidate is a highly organized and detail-oriented legal professional who thrives in a fast-paced municipal environment and exercises discretion when handling sensitive and confidential information. The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Experience in civil litigation or municipal legal support, with strong legal research, writing, and document management skills.
- Working knowledge of legal procedures, court rules, Public Records Act requirements, and modern legal office practices.
- The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deadlines, and apply sound judgment in complex or high-pressure situations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across City departments and with external agencies, courts, and legal partners.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent and: A certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association, or a certificate of completion/degree from a paralegal program approved by an accredited postsecondary institution that requires a minimum of 24 semester units, or equivalent, in law-related courses, or a baccalaureate degree or an advanced degree in combination with experience under the supervision of an attorney who has been an active member of the State Bar of California as set forth in B&P Code Section 6450.
Experience: At least two years of progressively responsible experience in civil litigation, or as a legal secretary or legal clerical support in a municipality.
Certificate: Paralegal certification is highly desirable
