Job Description

Reports to the Director of Women and Children’s Services. The Quality Specialist participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of quality and safety initiatives for the Women and Children’s Division. The specialist supports the team with the most current Performance Improvement methods and tolls, including project management support. This work includes, though is not limited to, facilitation of Performance Improvement projects and workshops, management and surveillance of data projects and workshops, management and surveillance of data for Performance Improvement opportunities, and preparation of data for presentation to physicians, reporting agencies, and the clinical teams.

Leads and coordinates assigned projects to improve quality outcomes throughout the Women’s and Children’s Division by:

  • Collaborating with the Director to identify and drive quality initiatives that align with corporate goals and strategies, as well as those required by reporting agencies through the use of performance improvement tools.
  • Performing research to collect, analyze and present data and information for quality projects.
  • Defining, leading and executing multiple quality initiatives simultaneously.
  • Prospectively identifying and escalating potential issues, barriers/risks or obstacles to initiatives, and developing action plans to mitigate those risks in order to achieve defined objectives.
  • Demonstrating project control internally through measurement, assessment, planning and reporting of hey outcome measures.
  • Promoting a multidisciplinary approach that integrates quality and process improvement initiatives.

Maintains and utilizes various database systems by:

  • Developing data collection instruments for abstraction of relevant clinical data from medical records.
  • Ensuring the quality of data by adhering to defined definitions and validating data for accuracy.
  • Collecting, analyzing, interpreting and summarizing data in preparation for presentation to physicians, departmental leadership, committees, and required agencies.

Enhances quality outcomes by:

  • Serving as a change-agent in efforts for quality/safety improvement.
  • Ensuring compliance of external and internal regulatory requirements related to designations and accreditation.
  • Understand, disseminate and communicate trends in quality and safety data.
  • Promotes a culture of quality and safety throughout the division and shares relevant information with quality leaders throughout the organization.

Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:

  • Maintaining current knowledge of processes, procedures, current developments in clinical areas and an awareness of governmental and legal factors.
  • Ensuring all projects and quality initiatives are effective in promoting Beacon’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Completing other job-related assignments and special projects as directed.

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor degree or higher is preferred for this position. Prior successful experience in a healthcare environment is preferred. Experiences in quality improvement tools, such as Lean, Six Sigma or TQM, or other comparable performance improvement strategies is required. Experience in project management is preferred.

  • Presents in a professional image and demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to articulate ideas clearly and concisely, as well as make effective recommendations and presentations.
  • Demonstrates creative ability and imagination to conceptualize, plan, develop, and design project materials and communications.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in computer applications (i.e. Google Docs, Word, Excel, etc.) Working knowledge of database applications and basic understanding of graphics software is desired.
  • Requires strong organizational skills necessary to effectively establish priorities, meet deadlines, work independently and coordinate multiple tasks.
