Senior Quantity Surveyor
Purpose of Role
Reporting directly to the Commercial Director, the Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the commercial oversight of multiple lightning protection and earthing projects, managing them from tender through to final account. The successful candidate will play a key role in cost control, contract administration and risk management, ensuring projects are delivered profitably and in line with contractual obligations.
Location: This role can be based in Ireland, Germany, or Netherlands and travel may be required
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the full commercial lifecycle of multiple projects, from initial tender to final account settlement, ensuring cost-effective delivery and maximum profitability.
- Prepare detailed measurements, bills of quantities, and tender documentation for various projects.
- Support tender submissions and bid strategies.
- Develop and manage cost plans, budgets, and financial forecasts, proactively identifying risks and opportunities to optimise margins.
- Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with the contract terms, manage variations, and maintain accurate project documentation.
- Track design and scope changes, assess their impact on project cost and timeline, and ensure timely agreement of variations with clients and subcontractors.
- Conduct regular site visits to assess progress, verify claims, and provide commercial guidance to project teams.
- Mentor junior QS team members, support performance development, and help build a collaborative, high-performing commercial team.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners to ensure smooth project delivery and future business development.
- Provide regular commercial reports to senior management, including cash flow projections, earned value reports and cost-to-complete forecasts.
Requirements
- 3rd Level qualification in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
- Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in a QS role.
- Strong understanding of building detail and construction technology.
- Working Knowledge of ISO standards and the ISO certification process.
- Knowledge of Environmental and Health & Safety systems.
- Proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work flexibly and to support and contribute to any performance improvements that may be implemented.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and site operations.
- Good interpersonal skills and be a team player.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 applications.
- Full driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
