About This Position
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Project Manager II - Legal performs administrative and programmatic duties for the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel and serves as the primary point of contact for Michigan Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) inquiries.
PRINCIPLE JOB DUTIES
• Serve as the DLBA’s primary coordinator for all FOIA requests, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and DLBA policies.
• Manage FOIA requests from intake through final response, including tracking deadlines and coordinating searches across DLBA departments.
• Provide project management support for document and contract creation and review activities, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
• Provide project management support for the Equitable Transfer review process.
• Provide project management support for defensive litigation matters, assisting the supervising attorney to help ensure deadlines, milestones and deliverables are met.
• Research, prioritize, and follow up on incoming issues and concerns addressed to the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel, including those of a sensitive or confidential nature. As appropriate, determine appropriate course of action, referral, or response.
• Provide a bridge for efficient communication between the General Counsel’s office and internal departments; demonstrating leadership to maintain credibility, trust and support with senior management staff.
• Work closely and effectively with the General Counsel to keep them well informed of upcoming commitments and responsibilities, following up appropriately.
• Prioritize conflicting needs; handle matters expeditiously, proactively, and follow-through on projects to successful completion, often with deadline pressures.
• Provide general clerical support to the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, and Legal Department.
• Special projects, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities)
• Bachelor's degree, preferred.
• At least three (3) years of experience supporting senior-level management, project management, or work in a legal setting.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point).
• Knowledge of Michigan Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), preferred.
• Knowledge of property-related databases (Wayne County Register of Deeds, TLO, LexisNexis, Wayne County Probate Court records, etc.), preferred.
• Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
• Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, board members, and external customers/clients.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
• Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently.
• Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve high-performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Forward-looking thinker who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions.
