CDL Driver - Miles of Smiles Mobile Dental Unit at Ottawa County – Holland, Michigan

Under the supervision of the Oral Health Team Supervisor, operates the Miles of Smiles mobile dental unit. Assists with setup, minor maintenance, and logistical support for mobile dental clinics, primarily at school settings.

We are seeking a dependable and safety-conscious CDL Driver to operate our Miles of Smiles mobile dental unit. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being on the road and supporting community health initiatives.

This position will typically work 1-2 days per week. Schedule varies based on staffing needs and requires flexibility.

• Safely operate the Miles of Smiles mobile dental unit to and from designated sites and events.
• Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and maintain detailed records.
• Ensure the mobile unit is parked, leveled, and secured properly at each site.
• Coordinate with medical staff for smooth setup and operation of the mobile unit.
• Monitor fuel levels, generator function, and basic mechanical needs.
• Report any maintenance issues or delays to the supervisor promptly.
• Assist with loading/unloading of medical supplies and equipment as needed.
• Provide courteous and professional interactions with patients and the public.

• Valid CDL Class B (or A) license with a clean driving record.
• Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience operating large vehicles or buses.

• Strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance (DOT/FMCSA standards).
• Ability to work flexible hours including early mornings or occasional weekends.
• Physically able to assist with minor lifting and setup tasks.
• Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working in healthcare or community settings.
• Basic mechanical knowledge or facility maintenance experience.
• Ability to interact positively with patients and their families, co-workers, oral health care practitioners, school administrators and staff, community representatives, and members of the public from widely diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and with varying levels of interpersonal and communications skills.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to successfully pass the required FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearing House record search.
• Must have sufficient visual acuity with or without corrective lenses to qualify for a Commercial Driver's License.
• Must possess sufficient auditory acuity with or without audiological appliances to qualify for a Commercial Driver's License.
• Must have sufficient strength and mobility to steer and control commercial vehicles.
• Must be able to ascend to and descend from the cab of the mobile unit.
• Must be able to transport, set up and tear down equipment weighing up to 25 lbs in order to stock and set up mobile oral health unit examination rooms.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed on the Miles of Smiles mobile dental unit. Employee must frequently load and unload equipment from the mobile oral health unit and set-up and tear-down equipment.
