EVS is seeking a TEMPEST Support Technician – Field Technician II. The support technician provides technical support for secure communications and information systems operating within controlled and classified environments at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). This position supports TEMPEST-related operational security requirements designed to protect classified and sensitive information from compromising emanations associated with electronic equipment and telecommunications systems. The technician assists with secure system installation support, equipment inspections, cable management, workstation support, and compliance activities associated with secure NIPR/SIPR and VoIP environments supporting mission-essential operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Support TEMPEST and communications security (COMSEC) requirements for classified and sensitive information systems.
• Assist with installation, configuration, relocation, and maintenance of secure end-user devices, telecommunications systems, and associated peripherals.
• Support secure workstation setup activities for NIPR/SIPR and classified environments.
• Assist with inspections and validation of secure work areas, cable routing, equipment placement, and shielding requirements.
• Support troubleshooting and maintenance activities for secure VoIP, desktop, printer, and communications equipment.
• Ensure compliance with Government TEMPEST, physical security, and cybersecurity requirements.
• Assist with identification and reporting of potential vulnerabilities or non-compliance issues involving secure communications equipment.
• Support lifecycle replacement, workstation imaging, software installation, and hardware deployment activities within secure environments.
• Maintain accurate documentation for equipment inventories, maintenance activities, service requests, and secure asset tracking.
• Utilize Government ticketing and work order systems such as ServiceNow and CIPS to document support activities.
• Coordinate with Government cybersecurity personnel, COMSEC managers, and technical support teams regarding secure system support requirements.
• Support operational standby requirements, mission-critical activities, VIP support requirements, and special events.
• Respond to Priority 1, 2, and 3 outage requests in accordance with contract response timelines.
• Participate in after-hours support and on-call rotations as required.
• Maintain strict adherence to classified handling procedures, operational security standards, and access control policies.
• Active Secret Security Clearance required.
• Minimum of 2–4 years of experience supporting IT systems, telecommunications equipment, Help Desk operations, or secure technical environments.
• Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity, COMSEC, or secure communications environments preferred.
• Experience supporting desktop hardware, VoIP systems, peripherals, printers, and workstation troubleshooting activities.
• Basic understanding of TEMPEST principles, secure facility procedures, or classified systems support preferred.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft O365 applications.
• Experience using ServiceNow, CIPS, or similar enterprise ticket management systems preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow strict security procedures.
• Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and within team-based operational environments.
Certifications/Training (Required)
• CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent DoD 8140 compliant certification preferred or required based on assigned access level.
• TEMPEST, COMSEC, or secure communications training.
• Microsoft or related desktop support certifications preferred.
Work Environment
• On-site position supporting the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA).
• Work may be performed in controlled or classified environments requiring strict adherence to security procedures.
• May require lifting, transporting, and installing IT and telecommunications equipment.
• Requires support during normal operating hours with possible after-hours and emergency support responsibilities.
• Position supports mission-essential operations and critical communication support activities.
