Job Description

The Site Supervisor is responsible for assisting with the daily operations and management of the Bull Run Shooting Center. This position works under the general supervision of the Park Manager with latitude for independent judgment and action. The Site Supervisor assumes responsibility for the shooting facility in the absence of the Park Manager and Park Specialist.

Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour

Major Duties/Specific Tasks

  • Assist in the operational aspects of the shooting facility to include customer service, safety, daily operations, and staff supervision.
  • Plan, direct, and oversee the work of seasonal and part-time employees in the operation and maintenance of the shooting facility, grounds, and equipment.
  • Promote high levels of employee performance, professionalism, and morale.
  • Monitor facility operations to ensure customer satisfaction and adherence to NOVA Parks standards.
  • Operate the facility and perform duties in all operational positions as needed.
  • Apply and interpret safety standards and ensure compliance with all shooting range regulations and NOVA Parks policies.
  • Ensure the security of facility assets, equipment, and operations.
  • Assume management responsibility of the facility in the absence of the Park Manager and Park Specialist.
  • Inspect facility, equipment, and grounds for hazards and adherence to NOVA Parks standards.
  • Identify maintenance problems and/or hazards, initiate corrective action, or report issues to park management.
  • Operate maintenance equipment as needed and perform related manual labor.
  • Foster a positive public image for the shooting facility and NOVA Parks.
  • Provide information and assistance to visitors and special interest groups through courteous and professional communication.
  • Maintain effective relationships with vendors, local law enforcement, and user groups.
  • Encourage visitor feedback and respond to complaints and concerns appropriately.
  • Investigate accidents, theft, vandalism, and violations and complete appropriate reports in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and maintain business, personnel, and administrative records and reports.
  • Assist with facility opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and operational oversight.
  • Ensure NOVA Parks safety, business standards, and operational procedures are being followed.
  • Assist with park operations as needed.
  • Report unsafe conditions to park management.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by park management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 18 (required by law).
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and, if selected, random drug test.
  • Ability to pass the Bull Run Shooting Center Range Safety Officer course.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a safe driving record.
  • High school diploma and one year of responsible experience in shooting range operations, business management, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of firearm operation, maintenance, and safety.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and practices involved in business and personnel management.
  • Ability to identify and resolve operational problems and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public and special interest groups.
  • Ability to interpret and explain NOVA Parks policies, rules, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Working knowledge of computers and software applications.
  • Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks, including lifting, stooping, bending, climbing ladders, operating equipment, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions and lift items weighing 80 pounds or more.
  • Availability to work rotating schedules, weekends, holidays, and additional hours during peak operating periods.
  • Availability for off-duty phone calls and emergency response situations.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid or ability to obtain certifications as required.
  • Must be legally able to possess, use, and operate a firearm in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain necessary licenses or certifications.
  • Required to purchase and wear standard uniform.
