  • Pay: $41,000 Annually / $19.71 per hour (BOE)
  • Monday - Friday, Full Time, Exempt Position

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Early Interventionists work in the home, via telehealth, or community child care centers, with families or caretakers, whose children qualify for Early Intervention services through the Department of Disabilities and Aging (DDA), Tennessee Early Intervention System (TEIS).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Drives personal vehicle to home visits as assigned, and as needed by the program to satisfy coverage of any children needing services, as requested by supervisor.
  • Reads and reviews Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) for child and family, observes child and family, listens to family, and supports family by actively engaging in brainstorming, problem solving, and modeling strategies which may include bending, crawling, reaching, kneeling, sitting, standing and walking.
  • Enters information into the Tennessee Early Intervention Data System, using a computer, and within required time frames.
  • Schedules home visits with families over the phone, and keeps a consistent schedule.
  • Attends, and actively participates in trainings, and other professional development opportunities.
  • Monitors child and family progress on the IFSP.
  • Understands and implements the principles of Early Intervention, knows and is capable of sharing information about the Rights of Infants and Toddlers under Part C of IDEA.
  • Follows Corporate Compliance Policy, completes paperwork, and utilizes PHS.
  • Ensures confidentiality regarding sensitive material including applicant’s, employee’s, and individual’s right to privacy and protected health information, following Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Practices and ensures use of universal precautions.
Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Carry a caseload and provide direct service to a minimum of 16-20 FTE families at all times. (FTE is defined as Full Time Equivalent 1 hour per child.)
  • Work with families on strategies they can use in the home, or in childcare centers with child care staff, using Family Guided Routines Based Intervention (FGRBI) model of support, recommended practices from the Division of Early Childhood, and other evidence based practices.
  • Ability to understand and use principles related to Adult Learning.
  • Assess children using the required assessment or screening tool, and submit reports to Service Coordinators at designated times (initial, six month, and annually), as required.
  • Track progress made towards goals on the child’s Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).
  • Ability to work in a variety of home, and child care situations, and to demonstrate respect and cultural sensitivity to families. Demonstrates flexibility as appropriate in order to help families obtain information and support their child.
  • Comply with all requirements in the Tennessee Early Intervention Operations Manual, including timely entry of service notes, maintaining a minimum of 75% attendance rate per month, and starting services with families within 30 calendar days.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and remain calm during a crisis.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Company and DDA guidance manual.
  • Ability to use excel and word documents and other computer programs as needed.

EDUCATIONAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum Qualifications for an Early Interventionist includes a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Child and Family Studies, Early Intervention, or related field, as required by the Department of Disability and Aging, Tennessee Early Intervention System. Related fields are degrees in deaf education or visual disabilities, special education K-12 elementary education, communication disorders and speech language pathology.
  • Hiring preference is given to those with degrees in early childhood education, and work experience with children birth to three and family involvement and engagement experience.

REQUIRED LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES

  • First Aid, CPR, and other applicable certification that are provided by the organization.
  • Minimum required hours per year of training for DDA.
  • Emory Valley Center Early Intervention Orientation.
  • Valid TN driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Car Insurance Coverage as required.
  • Annual Training as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • While performing the duties of the job, employees travel by automobile, will utilize own vehicle, and is exposed to changing weather conditions.
  • May be exposed to various medical conditions and communicable diseases.
  • Work will take place in the community and in the homes.
