Job Description

Staff Performance Software Engineer

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Staff Performance Software Engineer in United States.

This role sits at the intersection of performance engineering, distributed systems, and large-scale cloud infrastructure, where your work directly shapes how systems behave under real-world load. You will act as a technical authority for performance testing strategy, optimization frameworks, and system scalability across complex, high-throughput environments. Working closely with engineering teams, you will translate production usage patterns into measurable insights that improve latency, stability, and efficiency at scale. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will define standards, build reusable performance tooling, and guide teams in solving deeply technical bottlenecks. You’ll collaborate across product and engineering functions in a fast-moving cloud-native organization with a strong focus on automation and observability. Your contributions will directly influence platform reliability used by tens of thousands of customers globally.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will lead the design and evolution of performance engineering practices and tooling that ensure scalable and reliable system behavior across distributed architectures:

  • Design, build, and maintain performance testing and data generation frameworks to identify system bottlenecks and optimize throughput and latency
  • Define performance benchmarks, engineering standards, and scalability best practices across teams and services
  • Translate real-world usage patterns into actionable performance insights and optimization strategies
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to analyze system behavior across applications, databases, and infrastructure layers
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, architectural decision records, and performance measurement methodologies
  • Build reusable frameworks and tools that enable teams to proactively identify and resolve performance issues
  • Drive cross-team initiatives focused on system optimization, reliability, and observability improvements
Requirements

We are looking for a senior-level engineer with strong expertise in performance engineering and distributed systems, combined with a hands-on, systems-thinking approach:

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years in performance or load testing frameworks (e.g., k6, JavaScript-based tools)
  • Strong experience designing and optimizing distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and containerized environments
  • Hands-on experience with AWS or other cloud platforms in production-scale environments
  • Strong understanding of performance tuning, system bottlenecks, and scalability challenges
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or similar for automation and observability
  • Experience working with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred), including performance optimization and query tuning
  • Familiarity with large-scale backend systems and asynchronous, event-driven architectures
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, able to work effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
Benefits
  • Competitive salary ranging from approximately $200,000 to $300,000 depending on location and experience
  • Fully remote or hybrid work flexibility within eligible U.S. locations
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan with employer support
  • Unlimited PTO to support work-life balance
  • Strong focus on professional growth, learning, and career advancement opportunities
  • Collaborative, engineering-driven culture centered on curiosity and innovation
  • Opportunity to impact a large-scale SaaS platform serving tens of thousands of customers globally
