Job Description

Job Summary:

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing intensive, high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting. This role involves continuous patient monitoring, rapid assessment, and intervention while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The RN coordinates total nursing care for ICU patients, actively participates in patient and family education, and provides leadership by working cooperatively with other ICU nurses, ancillary nursing staff, and other healthcare personnel to maintain professional nursing practice standards in the clinical setting at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct, intensive nursing care to critically ill patients, including administering medications, managing life-support equipment, and implementing advanced nursing interventions.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments and monitor patient conditions to detect changes, responding with immediate and appropriate interventions.
  • Coordinate total nursing care for ICU patients, ensuring continuity and quality of care.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Participate in patient and family education, ensuring understanding of conditions, treatment plans, and post-discharge care when applicable.
  • Work cooperatively with other ICU nurses, ancillary nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members to uphold the highest standards of ICU nursing practice.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of patient status, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, protocols, and infection control measures to ensure patient and staff safety.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research, and professional development activities to enhance ICU nursing practice.

Qualifications:

Licensure: Active NYS RN license.
Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Critical Care certification (CCRN preferred).
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
Experience: Prior ICU or critical care nursing experience preferred.
