The Radiation Therapist performs all aspects of the radiation treatment as prescribed in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist.

Qualifications:

• Education
  • Graduate of an accredited school or training program for Radiation Therapy Technology.
• Certification/Licensure (including annual requirements)
  • ARRT or registry eligible
• Experience (Yrs/Type)
  • At least 1 year of Radiation Therapy experience preferred

Job Duties and Standards:

1. Administers the correct procedure/treatment to the correct patient, without exception.
2. Obtains history and /or examination data and evaluates for contraindicating conditions.
3. Makes and applies blocks for shielding.
4. Applies supportive and immobilization devices and equipment.
5. Applies tattoos to mark point of beam concentration.
6. Takes port films to ensure localized region to be treated.
7. Performs simulation procedures.
8. Calculates doses of radiation to be applied in treatment.
9. Adjusts and controls the equipment for the delivery of ionizing radiation.
10. Provides emotional support, comfort. Education and information to patients.
11. Ensures that any preparatory instructions are relayed to nursing staff for inpatients on a timely basis, so that procedures/treatments are not delayed due to inadequate or untimely preparation.
12. Keeps Radiation Oncologist advised on all aspects of care provided to their patients, ensuring prompt notification when problems, or potential problems arise.
13. Ensures that equipment is fully operational prior to each day's use.
14. Performs minor repairs and calibrations, so that outside service calls are avoided for adjustments that are within the scope of the Therapist's ability to handle.
15. Performs duties of clerical and transportation personnel as needed.
16. Prepares, processes or maintains records, reports, forms, logs and other documentation.
17. Participates in the training of students and new employees.
18. Maintains supplies and equipment.
19. Maintains skill competence.
20. Enters data into clinic computer system and bills correctly and appropriately for procedures given.
21. Maintains/adds chemicals to the processor if needed and develops port and simulation films.
22. Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures.
23. Attends annual in services as required by the Radiation Oncology department and SMH.
24. Performs weekly and monthly quality assurance on machines as needed.
25. Rotates in areas of simulation and treatment.
26. Educates patients and explains the procedures prior to performing them in simulation, clinic visits and treatment.
27. Performs other clinical duties as assigned.
