About This Position

General Responsibilities:

Responsible for providing instructional leadership through effective implementation of curriculum and instruction as measured by stated student outcomes. Teaches a minimum of 2 blocks. Teaching schedule and assignments are determined by the school principal and are based upon staffing needs.

Essential Duties:

  • Serves as a primary evaluator and conducts informal and formal observations and provides teachers with quality feedback to improve instructional practice.

  • Analyzes performance data and instructional strategies to make appropriate educational decisions to improve classroom instruction, increase student achievement, and improve overall school, department, and team effectiveness.

  • Works collaboratively with staff to identify student needs and to develop, implement, and monitor the team, department, and school improvement plan or program plan that results in increased student academic progress.

  • Utilizes collaboration and shared decision-making to build relationships, maintain positive morale, and facilitate effective lines of communication.

  • Plans, organizes, and facilitates team, department, and faculty meetings and maintains records as directed by the principal.

  • Supports professional learning and ongoing collaboration among teachers, administrators, specialists, and support staff.

  • Supports school and division employee induction and mentoring processes for all new, provisional, and targeted instructional personnel.

  • Involves students, staff, parents, and the community to create and sustain a positive, safe, and healthy learning environment.

  • Uses tiered supports and restorative practices and communicates behavior expectations to students, staff, and parents.

  • Serves on district-wide curriculum committees and participates in assessment of effectiveness of curriculum, instruction, and assessment, and recommendations for improvement at the school and division level.

  • Works with the principal to plan, prepare, and implement a fiscally responsible budget to support the school's mission and goals.

  • Collaborates with administration on the comprehensive scheduling process.

  • Assists in the development of remediation and enrichment programs, including summer planning.

  • Coordinate middle and high school transition activities with feeder schools.

  • Supervision of extracurricular activities as determined by the school principal.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school division’s policies and practices.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of research-based techniques/programs for achieving specific curricula/objectives; leadership skills. Knowledge of subject area and school-wide activities (planning, implementing, and monitoring instruction); demonstrate participatory decision-making leadership style; be recognized as an effective teacher by administration and peers; demonstrate good human relations skills; and provide evidence of willingness to examine research and base decision upon findings and successful practices. Knowledge and success with implementing strategies to support success in teaching Standards of Learning.

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university

  • Teacher License with endorsement(s) in Administration and Supervision and in relevant content area(s) or be eligible to ascertain a license and endorsement.

  • At least three years of successful experience as a classroom teacher at the secondary level.

Preferred:

  • At least five years of successful experience as a classroom teacher at the secondary level.

  • Administrative experience at the Secondary level.


Location: Assigned Building
Work Schedule: 11M – 8.00 Hrs.
Pay Grade: 17
Salary Scale: Uniform
FLSA Status: Exempt

Physical Conditions:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Work is performed in an office and classroom setting. Travel to school sites throughout the County is possible. Attendance to meetings outside the normal duty hours is often required.


Work typically requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, balancing, with extended periods of sitting at computer terminals; employee may be required to drive and may be required to lift of up to 20 pounds unassisted; may be required to use hands to lift, support, handle or feel objects, tools, equipment and/or controls; reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Consistent and regular attendance is an essential duty of this position.
