Job Description

Position Title: Drainage Design Chief Engineer / Group Leader

Location: Tampa, Florida, United States

Department: Civil
Description: H&H is seeking a Drainage Design Chief Engineer / Group Leader with at least fifteen years of professional experience to join our transportation team in Tampa, Florida. This position will lead the Drainage Group for our Florida operations and play a key role in expanding the service line. The role includes oversight of drainage design and stormwater permitting services for FDOT, Florida's Turnpike Enterprise, municipal clients, and the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority. Additional responsibilities include strategic marketing initiatives and business development with existing and new clients.

Responsibilities
  • Develop strategic plans and lead business development efforts to grow the drainage discipline in Florida
  • Provide drainage design and hydraulic analysis for pavement systems, including gutter spread, hydroplaning, storm sewer tabulations, and culvert capacity
  • Design and analyze pond systems to meet Water Management District requirements for water quality and peak attenuation
  • Develop and modify large watershed models in StormWise (ICPR)
  • Prepare technical reports documenting drainage design and analysis
  • Collaborate with roadway designers to ensure integrated and compatible designs
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients and owners
  • Oversee and implement internal quality control procedures
  • Train, mentor, and manage engineering staff across Florida offices
  • Lead a team of up to ten engineers and coordinate workload and staffing


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
  • Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Minimum of fifteen years of professional experience
  • Demonstrated experience on FDOT projects
  • Knowledge of FEMA floodplain regulations, FDOT Design Manual, drainage plans production criteria, and design standards
  • Familiarity with Florida DEP stormwater management permitting requirements
  • Proficiency with design software, including MicroStation, OpenRoads, ORD-SUDA, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Excel, GIS, StormWise (ICPR), HEC-RAS, HY-8, SMS, and SRH-2D
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, teamwork abilities, and flexibility to perform a wide range of tasks, including field work
  • Initiative and ability to take on new projects and challenges
