Are you passionate about swimming and teaching? The Greater Burlington YMCA is looking for Swim Instructors to help individuals of all ages and skill levels develop confidence and water safety skills. As a Swim Instructor, you’ll play a key role in creating a safe, fun, and engaging learning experience for participants while promoting the YMCA’s mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

What You'll Do:

  • Instruct Swim Lessons: Teach group and private swim lessons for participants of all ages and skill levels.
  • Ensure Safety: Monitor swimmers, enforce pool rules, and respond effectively to emergencies.
  • Engage & Communicate: Greet participants, take attendance, and provide feedback to swimmers and their families.
  • Plan & Evaluate: Develop lesson plans using skill progression guidelines and track participant progress.
  • Maintain a Positive Environment: Create an inclusive and supportive atmosphere while enforcing YMCA values.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate with other aquatics staff and attend required meetings, in-services, and trainings.
Requirements:

What We’re Looking For:

  • Must be at least 15 years old.
  • Ability to obtain or currently hold CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and First Aid certification.
  • At least one year of experience working with children and/or adults.
  • Strong sense of patience, enthusiasm, and responsibility.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Solid understanding of swimming fundamentals and ability to demonstrate skills.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, balance, kneel, and crouch as needed.
  • Comfortable working in and around water for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate clearly for interacting with participants and members.
