SCHEDULE:
We are hiring for a variety of day, swing and overnight shifts. The team works weekends and holidays as assigned/needed to keep the shelter operations running year round! LOCATION: 5400 Gibson Blvd SE ABOUT WOMEN'S HOUSING NAVIGATION
Women's Housing Navigation Center offers a safe and welcoming environment to women experiencing homelessness in Albuquerque. The center is open year-round and offers meals, a warm overnight bed, and secure under-bed storage. The shelter provides low barrier, trauma-informed case management, job searching, and other supportive services. The team works to guide guests through a successful exit from the shelter to safe, stable housing, and a plan for ongoing support. HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT?
You will be delivering trauma-informed, client-centered support to female residents at the Women’s Housing Navigation Shelter. As the Housing Support Specialist, you'll combine housing case management and intake coordination to ensure a seamless service experience for guests entering and residing in the shelter. Your daily routine involves doing intake assessments, data entry, crisis intervention, individualized service planning, connection to community resources, and ongoing support to promote housing stability and self-sufficiency. Ensuring compliance with shelter policies while fostering a safe, respectful, and empowering environment is key to your success.

- Conduct Intake & Assessments: Perform intake interviews, complete assessments (e.g., VI-SPDAT), and maintain accurate records in HMIS and City Emergency Bed Tracker.
- Provide Case Management & Housing Navigation: Develop individualized service plans, offer emotional support, and connect guests to housing, employment, and community resources.
- Ensure Shelter Safety & Operations: Monitor dorms, enforce rules, manage conflicts using de-escalation techniques, and coordinate pet care agreements.
- Facilitate Community Engagement: Organize group activities, foster a trauma-informed and culturally competent environment, and promote resident participation.
- Maintain Documentation & Compliance: Track services, incidents, and metrics; ensure adherence to health, safety, and policy standards.
WHAT MAKES YOU A GREAT HOUSING SUPPORT SPECIALIST?
- You are trauma-informed, non-judgmental and culturally competent, building trust and fostering connections with diverse populations experiencing homelessness.
- You excel at intake and case management, using strong organizational and communication skills to assess needs, create individualized plans, and connect residents to resources.
- You demonstrate calm under pressure, handling crises and conflicts with professionalism, problem-solving ability, and de-escalation techniques.
- You are a collaborative team player with attention to detail, ensuring accurate documentation, policy compliance, and smooth shelter operations. You are able to work through conflicts.

High school diploma or equivalent; In lieu of education equivalent experience in social services or related fields will also be considered.
Certified Peer Support Worker preferred.
Prior experience working in a shelter, community organization, or social service setting is a plus.
Prior experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or in a supportive housing setting is highly desirable.
Understanding of homelessness issues and familiarity with available community resources.
Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting, such as Microsoft Office and client management software.
Preferred Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally as needed.
