The City of Fayetteville Public Services department is currently recruiting for varying levels of engineers.
Hiring Range:
Engineer II: $66,120 - $84,303/Year D.O.Q.
Engineer III: $77,122 - $98,331/Year D.O.Q.
Engineering Project Manager: $71,409 - $91,047/Year D.O.Q.
Pay commensurate with experience.
Applicants qualifications will determine placement level if selected.

The Engineer II performs highly complex professional civil engineering work including designing various projects, preparing cost estimates, drafting specifications, collecting site data; and to provide responsible staff support to the Public Services Department.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience:
Two years of increasingly responsible professional experience in civil engineering. - Training:
Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.

- Licensing & Certifications:
- Required:
- Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability.
- When Acting As a Regulatory Reviewer: NC Stormwater Control Measures (SCM) Reviewer Certification and NC SCM Inspection & Maintenance Certification or ability to obtain them within six months from date of hire.

The Engineer III performs highly complex professional civil engineering work performed in the planning, surveying, design, review, contracting, inspection, field supervision, and maintenance of multiple municipal engineering projects and systems, related to roadway design, storm drainage and water quality design, pavement design, general traffic engineering, subdivision and zoning regulations, and construction standards; includes designing various projects, preparing cost estimates, drafting specifications and collecting site data; and to provide responsible staff support to the Development Review Unit of the Public Services Department. Work is performed under limited direct supervision.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience:
Four years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering experience including direct work experience in project management, including all aspects of process development and execution.- Two years of experience managing publicly owned projects preferred.
- Training:
Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field.

- Required:
- Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability.
- North Carolina Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or a PhD in Engineering from an institution that offers Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC)/Accreditation Board Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited programs or is eligible to sit for the North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE) based on twenty years of practical experience and has received the applicable waiver from the NC Board of Engineers and Surveyors.
- Preferred:
North Carolina PE license, Project Management, OSHA Certification, Certified Floodplain Manager, Certified Professional in Stormwater Quality.

The Engineering Project Manager performs highly complex professional civil engineering work performed in the planning, surveying, design, review, contracting, inspection, field supervision, and overall project management of multiple municipal engineering projects and systems, related to: roadway design, storm drainage and water quality design, sidewalk design, pavement design, general traffic engineering, subdivision and zoning regulations, and construction standards; includes designing various projects, preparing cost estimates, drafting specifications and collecting site data; and to provide responsible staff support to the Public Services Department.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience:
Four years of increasingly responsible experience in civil engineering, contract management or construction project management.- Grant management experience preferred.
- Training:
Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field.
- Experience:
- Licensing & Certifications:
- Required:
- Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Construction Manager (CCM).
- Preferred:
North Carolina Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM).
- Required:
From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.
