Position Description

This job description covers the principal duties and responsibilities of the job. The description shall not, however, be construed as a complete listing of all miscellaneous, incidental or similar duties which may be required from the employees day-to-day performance.

Position reports to Foreman

Foreman sets the working hours

This position is classified as hourly

CPR, First Aid, OSHA 30-Hour Safety, MASC Basic Orientation Plus (BOP) and Site Specific training (as required), Flagger and Confined Space Entry Training may be required

Successful pre-employment background check for LMC and all military bases is required

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen is required

10-Year DMV Report required for driving company vehicles (as applicable) per LMC insurance guidelines

TWIC card for special projects may be required


Position Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Safety

o Support and comply with company Health, Safety & Environmental Program, Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace, and Harassment Free Work Environment Program

o Set yourself as an example and practice workplace safety; use all personal protective equipment required for the job

o Operate equipment and hand tools in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life

o Visually inspect the worksite daily to insure a safe work environment

o Attends daily meetings for STA’s and Field Safety Talks to learn to identify possible hazards with work tasks, tools, and work area - both above and below ground, signs off on daily STA’s

o Confirm that all underground utilities have been located each day

o Report all accidents and incidents to project foreman and superintendent (regardless of how minor) as soon as possible

o Responsible for accessible, clean & organized work site

• Budget Management

o Completes tasks efficiently, meets or exceeds bid production

o Has basic understanding of scope of work (plans)

• Schedule

o Work activities/tasks completed on or ahead of schedule

o Plan daily work in advance with Foreman and/or Superintendent

o Notify project Foreman and/or Superintendent of project field problems or conflicts

• Quality

o All work is done per the contract documents and excels in visual appearance

o Perform quality work so re-work is never required

o Punch lists are minimal

o Maintain excellent job site housekeeping and cleanliness

• Communication

o Communicate openly with Foreman and Superintendents

o Communicate openly with PM’s, Equipment Manager, Shop, Safety and Human Resources when necessary

• Daily Work

o Ability to use hand tools well

o Ability to assist with and understand plans, layouts, and grades

o Ability to support Equipment Operators and Pipe Layers

• Equipment Operation/Maintenance

o Ability to operate or learn to operate support equipment such as roller, off road truck, compaction equipment, etc.

o Perform daily equipment inspections thoroughly and accurately and document defects with daily equipment inspection forms

o Responsible for the care and maintenance of compaction equipment

o Properly secure all equipment each day

o Promptly report equipment defects or problems to Project Foreman or Superintendent

o Care and cleanliness of all inventory/small tools and equipment

o Works independently

o Requires minimal support or assistance from project foreman and/or superintendents

• Time Management

o Prioritizes well; spends time wisely; gets things done

o Attendance and punctuality is good; schedules time off in advance

Qualifications and Standards

• Training and Experience

o Construction experience or combination of education and experience is preferred.

o Knowledge of principals, methods and standards of the designated trade’s area.

o Experience in the use and methods of tools and equipment commonly employed with the trade.

• Physical Requirements

o Must be physically able to exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

o Work involves sitting, walking or standing for extended periods of time.

o Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of five to fifty pounds.
