The Emergency Department at Exeter Hospital cares for a diverse patient population with a wide range of medical needs. With annual volumes of approximately 33,000 patients, the department is one of the busiest in the Seacoast area. In addition to the main Emergency Department, comprised of 21 beds, there is a 6-bed Minor Care area. Our Emergency Department nurses possess strong clinical assessment skills, superior judgment, and the ability to manage challenging situations and set priorities. They care for patients of all ages with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses in the following settings: triage, critical care, trauma care, emergency care and the Minor Emergency Care Unit (MECU).

Provides support to the unit and direct patient care to Emergency Department patients.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 0-6 months experience
  • Nationally Registered EMT/A, NH EMS Provider's license OR State of N.H Licensed Nursing Assistant
  • CPR certified within 30 days of hire
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong communication skills


Major Responsibilities:

  1. Follows established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement programs, safety and environment of care programs, infection control standards and safety control standards.
  2. Provides personal care to patients as needed or requested. Assists the RN with patient care including, but not limited to obtaining vital signs, blood drawing, glucose testing, application of cardiac monitoring, application of simple dressing and splints.
  3. Orders and maintains adequate levels of supplies for all areas of the ED. Takes inventory and stocks the triage area, orthopedic, eye, ENT, and airway carts, and each patient care area, ensuring that all appropriate equipment is available in each area. Ensures that blanket warmers and glucometer checks are complete.
  4. Assists with patient flow activities by loading and cleaning rooms, preparing patients for exam and for disposition, assisting with patient transportation to and from diagnostic imaging and other departments.
  5. Performs phlebotomy and EKGs. Orients new staff.
  6. Performs all clerical duties to include accurate and timely patient care documentation. Transcribes physician orders, maintains record integrity. Performs clerical duties relating to admission, discharge, transfer and death. Maintains department records and files. Requisitions supplies, equipment, maintenance and repairs. Keep stock and equipment inventories.
  7. May initiate IV therapy if certified as an EMT Advanced.
  8. Documents accurately, timely, concisely and legibly in accordance with department policies in the EMR.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned, as appropriate.
