About This Position

JOB SUMMARY

An Interventional Vascular Medicine Doctor is a specialized physician who diagnoses and treats vascular diseases through minimally invasive, image-guided procedures. Key duties include performing angioplasty, stenting, and thrombolysis, managing peripheral artery disease (PAD), carotid artery disease, and venous disorders, and offering longitudinal patient care.

PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Interventional Procedures: Perform minimally invasive, catheter-based treatments such as atherectomy, balloon angioplasty, and stenting to treat narrowed or blocked arteries and veins.
  • Diagnostic Imaging & Tests: Interpret vascular ultrasounds, duplex sonography, CT angiograms, and other vascular testing to assess blood flow and diagnose conditions.
  • Patient Care & Management: Conduct inpatient rounds and outpatient clinic visits to manage chronic conditions like PAD, venous disease, and carotid stenosis.
  • Emergencies: Provide care for acute vascular emergencies, including stroke, pulmonary embolism, peripheral arterial embolism or thrombosis, or vascular trauma.
  • Collaboration: Work with a multidisciplinary team, including cardiologists, vascular surgeons, and radiologists, to determine the best treatment, whether surgical or endovascular.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients on risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, and hypertension, and provide counseling on lifestyle modifications.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD or DO) degree from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school (American or Canadian).
  • Satisfactory completion of a nationally accredited (American or Canadian) internal medicine residency program.
  • Satisfactory fellowship training in endo vascular medicine, cardiovascular interventional radiology, or the equivalent.
  • Board certification in internal medicine and either interventional radiology or vascular medicine

Training and Experience

  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the clinical practice of interventional vascular medicine required.
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Must demonstrate well-developed communication skills and independent decision-making skills.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Current active unrestricted medical (DO or MD) license in Washington State required.
  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine.
  • Board certified in Vascular Medicine or Interventional Radiology.
  • Active unrestricted DEA license required.
  • American Heart Association BLS required.
  • American Heart Association ACLS required.
