Job Description Summary
The University of South Alabama’s Marine and Environmental Services department is seeking to hire a Manager, Sustainability Program. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions
These are the job duties required of the position.
Essential Functions
  • Oversees sustainability programs within the institution-wide Sustainability @ South Initiative and the Social-Ecological Sustainability Lab in the Stokes School of Marine & Environmental Sciences.
  • Leads the development and implementation of institutional-wide assessments, research, education, and community engagement programs that promote sustainability.
  • Provides information and resources for students, faculty and staff to assist with the creation of academic and research programs that foster institutional sustainability efforts.
  • Represents the institution in a collaborative manner to develop productive relationships with internal and external constituents.
  • Leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive sustainability plan which guides the overall environmental strategy by prioritizing programs, initiatives and practices.
  • Works closely with the University’s Sustainability Committee, campus community and regional organizations to ensure that associated programs are integrated and promoted.
  • Supports and works directly with faculty, staff and students, interested in performing academic, research and general projects that focus on sustainability issues.
  • Assists in coordinating programs across all institutional divisions and operational departments.
  • Collaborates with various University units to promote green building, waste reduction, recycling and energy conservation programs, planning, purchasing, transportation, student engagement, and others as appropriate.
  • Creates and maintains web-based materials, printed materials, displays, etc. to inform the community of sustainability related issues and initiatives.
  • Coordinates effective interaction and communication between the Sustainability Committee and academic, administrative, and student areas for the purpose of providing comprehensive institutional oversight and direction to South Alabama’s sustainability efforts.
  • Develops educational programs and conducts training on sustainability.
  • Develops and maintains tools, metrics, and indicators for assessing progress towards sustainability goals.
  • Stays current on best practices laws, regulations, and codes in sustainability, especially at other institutions of higher education, and participates in conferences and related events to identify new ideas and practices.
  • Identifies and pursues grant and resource development opportunities to support sustainability initiatives.
  • Assists with the management of extramural funding including tracking finances, managing project timelines, reporting, and compliance.
  • Initiates the processing of Electronic Personnel Action Forms (EPAFs) and Personnel Action Forms (PAFs) for sustainability staff and students, ensuring high-level accuracy for promotions, transfers, terminations, and salary adjustments.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
  • Related duties as required.
