Prefield Inspector at RFNOW Inc. – Virden, Manitoba

The Prefield Inspector is responsible for conducting detailed site assessments prior to fiber optic network construction. This role ensures that underground fiber installations are feasible, code-compliant, and aligned with engineering designs before construction crews are dispatched. The inspector identifies risks, verifies route accuracy, and prevents costly rework during fiber deployment.

Key Responsibilities:

· Conduct pre-construction field walks for FTTH, FTTP, backbone, and distribution fiber projects

· Verify underground conduit pathways, handholes, and cabinet locations

· Confirm fiber route alignment with approved engineering drawings and GIS mapping

· Measure spans, bore distances, trench lengths, and drop locations

· Identify obstructions such as trees, driveways, road crossings, utilities, and easements

· Confirm bore feasibility for directional drilling (HDD)

· Verify handhole, vault, and pedestal placement locations

· Identify utility conflicts using locates and maps

· Assess restoration needs (sidewalk, asphalt, landscaping)

· Other Duties as required

Qualifications & Experience

· Five (5) years of experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the outside plant (OSP) that supports fiber optic services.

· Working knowledge of safe construction practices used in building aerial and underground communications networks.

· Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to read and interpret general system layouts from blueprints and system maps.

· Valid class 5 driver's license with satisfactory driving record

Work Environment

• Field-based in varying environmental conditions.

• Walking over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather.

• Cover a large geographic area across Southern Manitoba and Saskatchewan

Job Details:

• Regular travel in the field Monday to Friday with some overnight stays required

• Salary dependant on Experience
