About This Position

Description:

The Maintenance Engineer Coordinator oversees and supports equipment maintenance and reliability initiatives within a Tier 1 automotive manufacturing environment. This salaried role reports to the Engineering Manager and operates within the established chain of command, with defined autonomy to prioritize activities, make technical decisions, and drive execution based on equipment condition, safety standards, and production requirements. The position balances approximately 60% shop-floor and 40% desk-based responsibilities. A key focus of this role is promoting and sustaining a safe, professional, and collaborative workplace culture, while maintaining composure under pressure and fostering teamwork to minimize operational stress. The Maintenance Engineer Coordinator responds promptly to equipment downtime, production interruptions, and safety issues, participates in Engineering meetings, and communicates professionally with internal teams and service suppliers to ensure reliability and operational excellence.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

· Coordinate maintenance activities across molding, welding, lamination, laser, and automation equipment

· Respond with urgency to downtime and safety issues

· Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis

· Apply and enforce LOTO

· Support PLCs, robotics, EOATs, and automation

· Drive cost reduction: uptime, micro-stops, cycle time, scrap

· Support new equipment installation and commissioning

· Communicate with external service suppliers

· Participate in continuous improvement projects

Material & Inventory Coordination:

· Manages inventory levels of spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies to ensure availability for scheduled and emergency maintenance activities.

· Coordinates with purchasing and warehouse teams to order, track, and receive materials needed for maintenance projects.

· Maintains accurate records of parts usage, stock levels, and equipment maintenance history in inventory management systems.

· Performs regular audits of spare parts and consumables to identify shortages, excess inventory, or obsolete items.

· Collaborates with maintenance and engineering teams to forecast material needs for upcoming projects, repairs, and preventive maintenance.

· Ensures proper storage, labeling, and organization of materials to support quick retrieval and reduce downtime.

· Supports cost control initiatives by tracking material usage and identifying opportunities to optimize inventory and reduce waste.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

· Works closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams to coordinate maintenance schedules, minimize equipment downtime, and ensure seamless production flow.

· Communicates maintenance plans, status updates, and potential risks to cross-functional teams to align priorities and expectations.

· Participates in daily production or maintenance meetings to provide insights on equipment readiness, repair timelines, and resource requirements.

· Collaborates with engineering and technical teams to support new equipment installations, upgrades, and process improvements.

· Acts as a liaison between maintenance, vendors, and external service providers to ensure timely resolution of equipment issues.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting:

· Tracks maintenance KPIs such as equipment uptime, mean time to repair (MTTR), mean time between failures (MTBF), and maintenance backlog to assess performance and identify trends.

· Collects and analyzes data from maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment logs to support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.

· Prepares reports and dashboards summarizing maintenance performance, resource utilization, and equipment reliability for management review.

· Monitors the effectiveness of preventive maintenance programs and corrective actions to ensure sustained equipment performance.

Supports root cause analysis and problem-solving efforts by providing accurate historical maintenance and performance data.

Compliance & Standards:

· Ensures all maintenance activities comply with internal procedures, engineering specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

· Supports adherence to industry standards, such as ISO, OSHA, and environmental regulations, during equipment maintenance and process improvements.

· Maintains accurate maintenance records, work orders, and documentation to meet audit and compliance requirements.

· Assists in implementing preventive and predictive maintenance programs in accordance with company policies and manufacturer recommendations.

· Identifies potential compliance risks related to equipment, materials, or procedures and escalates issues to management or engineering teams for corrective action.

· Participates in internal and external audits to demonstrate adherence to maintenance, safety, and quality standards.

Automation, Robotics & Vision Systems:

· Supports the maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration of automated equipment, robotic systems, and vision inspection systems to ensure optimal performance.

· Collaborates with Engineering, Controls, and Production teams to resolve automation issues quickly and minimize production downtime.

· Assists with the installation, validation, and upgrades of robotics and vision systems during new equipment launches or process improvements.

· Monitors system performance, collects operational data, and identifies trends to support predictive maintenance and continuous improvement.

· Ensures automated systems operate in compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards, following proper lockout/tagout and standard operating procedures.

· Coordinates with vendors and technical support for advanced troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and system upgrades.

Communication & Cross-Functional Support:

· Acts as the primary liaison between Maintenance, Production, Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams to coordinate maintenance activities and ensure alignment of priorities.

· Clearly communicates maintenance schedules, equipment status, and potential impacts on production to cross-functional teams.

· Supports production planning by providing timely updates on equipment readiness, repair timelines, and resource requirements.

· Facilitates knowledge sharing and technical guidance with production personnel to ensure proper use and care of equipment.

· Assists in coordinating vendor support, technical services, and external contractors while maintaining clear communication with internal stakeholders.

· Participates in meetings, project reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure maintenance goals are integrated with overall operational objectives.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree or 10 years equivalent hands-on experience • 10+ years manufacturing experience • 5+ years automotive experience • 2+ years Tier 1 Injection Molding experience • Experience with injection molding machines (Engel, KraussMaffei, Haitian) • Foaming machines, Hot plate welding, Vacuum and press lamination Vibration welding and Automated assembly stations

Core Competencies:

Technical Skills

· Proficient in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining mechanical, electrical, and automated equipment in a manufacturing environment.

· Skilled in using maintenance management systems (CMMS), ERP software, and inventory tracking tools to manage work orders, spare parts, and equipment history.

· Knowledgeable in robotics, PLCs, vision systems, and automated machinery, including basic diagnostics, calibration, and preventative maintenance.

· Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, process documentation, and standard operating procedures.

· Familiar with preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, root cause analysis, and reliability improvement techniques.

· Competent in using hand tools, precision measurement instruments, and diagnostic equipment to support maintenance and repair tasks.

· Supports continuous improvement by collecting, analyzing, and reporting maintenance and equipment performance data.
