About This Position

This is a seasonal position working at the David H Madison Pool. The pool season runs from May-Sept, with pre-season training in the spring.



Assists in the oversight of the aquatic program by performing the following duties:


Oversees day-to-day chemical and physical pool operations.


Creates and maintains a proper facility cleaning schedule.


Helps handle patron concerns/PR.


General knowledge of the MyRec software for memberships, point of sale, and rentals to offer support to the front desk staff.


Handles cash flow during shifts and reconciles deposits at the end of each shift.


Helps oversee all First Aid training and all First Aid given.


Monitors lifeguard activity, attendance and scheduling.


Helps to create, organize and execute in-services for lifeguards.


Attends all weekly meetings with supervisors.


Other duties may be assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities:


This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities but is responsible assisting with staffing and programs.


High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and one year of aquatic facility experience and/or training; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Certified Lifeguard - Required

Certified Lifeguard Trainer - Preferred

Water Safety Instruction Certification - Preferred


Other Qualifications:

Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Must be comfortable in and around water.


Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the City.


Mathematical Skills:

Basic Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a limited number of distinct tasks and functions in standardized situations.


Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of scheduling systems.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Must be pleasant with public, have excellent communication skills, excellent attendance and be reliable and punctual.


Must work effectively with a team and be able to organize and perform multiple responsibilities, sometimes simultaneously, in an accurate, efficient, and responsive manner; Must be able to adapt to unexpected changes in assignments or deadlines.
