About This Position
Senior Electrical Engineer - Power Electronics
The Propulsion team at Hermeus is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Power Electronics Electrical Engineer. In this role you will be responsible for cradle to grave ownership of the electrical power architecture and components for all new vehicle development at Hermeus in addition to mentoring junior engineers and establishing standards and tools that level up the whole team. This role will be embedded in the propulsion team where you will be working with a cross functional team of electrical and mechanical engineers to architect the power system to provide electrical, fluid and mechanical power to critical vehicle components for supersonic and hypersonic aircraft, with the ultimate goal of enabling hypersonic commercial transport. The ideal candidate will be able to act as the bridge between mechanical and electrical disciplines. In this role you will be responsible for the design of flight hardware in addition to all necessary ground and test equipment. In addition to working on custom designs you will also be responsible for working with vendors to identify commercial off the shelf and custom solutions. Finally, you will be hands on hardware and support the build and test of multiple prototype vehicles as we continually push Hermeus capabilities forward. Minimum Requirements
- BS Electrical Engineering or Mechanical/Aerospace with significant industry experience working with development of electrical component & systems
- 5+ years of experience in multiple of the following areas: Battery design, motor controller design, harness design and fabrication, design for high EMI environments and appropriate mitigations, power conditioning, communication hubs/busses, bus converters, and PCB layout
- Demonstrated project experience designing high power (>5kw) electronic components and or distributed systems
- Strong analysis and troubleshooting skills
- Willing to get your hands dirty and turn wrenches (or wield a soldering iron if that is more your speed)
- Masters degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Direct experience working with high-voltage DC systems and components (e.g., batteries, motors, generators).
- Hands-on experience with HV systems, including proper safety procedures and precautions.
- Strong working knowledge of aerospace systems engineering practices, including requirements development, verification and validation, component qualification and acceptance testing, system diagramming/modeling, and risk management.
- Experience executing hardware test and certification campaigns.
- Proficiency with relevant software tools and programming languages such as Python, Capital Harness, Siemens NX/Teamcenter, and Altium Designer.
- Experience with simulation and test tools (e.g., Fluke process meters, ammeters, Simulink, ANSYS).
- Familiarity with industry standards such as IPC-620, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-HDBK-516C, MIL-STD-464D, and DO-160G.
- Experience working with avionics devices and communication protocols (CAN bus, RS-422, ARINC 825) and connectors (e.g., D38999).
- Strong ability to collaborate across mechanical and electrical engineering domains.
- Proven experience contributing to engineering project teams in fast-paced environments.
